Actually, if there's one thing to really regret about the making of Macross (oh, only ONE thing?), it's that this show happened before the concept of the Weeb had truly manifested. I mean, think about it: the Zentradi are all excited about media from this entirely different society that's alien to them. There's a LOT of ways the otaku meta-commentary already present in these characters could have been further spun into having fun with anime's foreign fanbase... except that said fanbase wouldn't really start to bloom until AFTER Macross had already aired (and, in fact, owes a lot of its existence to Robotech in the first place)
