Some background for those of you not familiar with late 90s anime drama: Lost Universe is a kinda-sorta-not-really-but-maybe spinoff of Slayers by the same author, which got an anime adaptation of its own that was... legendarily bad. As in, the name of one of the episodes became otaku slang for "bad animation" for a while. While much of the problem stemmed from bad management and the industry as a whole getting hit by economic woes, it'd also didn't help that there was a fire in the studio that destroyed most of the original work done on the first five episodes, and it all had to be redone from scratch in a BIG hurry. Surprise surprise, that didn't result in a high quality product.
So of course my first thought was to mock their misfortune by saying it was all Lina's fault. HA HA HA it's funny because a lot of people's careers were ruined!
...actually, I'll feel like even more of a jerk if it turns out this was a KyoAni type situation where people actually died. I mean, I've researched as best I could at short notice, and I've not SEEN a single reference to anybody being hurt in the studio fire. I'm pretty sure if that was what went down, SOMEBODY would have mentioned it, so I guess I'm in the clear. But still, I really hope I'm not wrong about that...
