Conventional Wisdom: Ichibancon 2020 - page 3

It helps if you understand that 90% of the directions for the drive between Raleigh and Charlotte is "Don't spontaneously drive off the side of the interstate."  As long as you're pointed in the right direction, you can just keep going straight and not get lost... MOST of the way.  The flipside of that straightforward drive is that it all starts to blur together after a while.  So, really, I didn't so much need directions on which way to turn when I got there, just a proximity alarm to remind me "HEY DUMMY!  This is the exit!"

Oh, and just a bit of housekeeping: I was really, REALLY hoping for July to be the month where I finally shook up the Patreon and started posting some different stuff again.  So of COURSE this turned out to be the month where a whole new set of Real Life distractions flared up and messed that up.  Don't worry, it's nothing horrible (or any more horrible than everything else) but I DID have to lug my computer into another room to post this, because the air conditioner upstairs is busted and that whole half of the house is uninhabitable.  That's the sort of thing that disrupts one's work flow, ya know?

I've done this at work a few times. I drive down the same strip of interstste everyday, and sometimes I'm just so in my own world, I end up passing my exit and have to drive two miles to the next exit and then turn around. You are not alone good sir!

Dude, that's nothing. Once, when I was in the process of moving all my various stuff up to DC from Raleigh, I missed a turn in Virginia and spent TWO HOURS going the wrong way, then at least two MORE cutting across North Carolina to finally get where I was trying to go.

On a less smart-alec-y note, I've done this literally exact same thing. Despite having driven it probably dozens of times, It only took me 15 minutes to realize I might be headed to Ohio instead of Charlotte, 15 more minutes to decide that I was really *sure* I had missed the turn and wasn't just imagining it, and then 20 more to actually reach an available turn-around...
