This is another case of me planning to save an idea for the very end of the set of comics, but then several of the pages that were supposed to come in the middle didn't work out and suddenly it'd been another whole month since the last "weekly" comic, so I couldn't afford to sit on an idea without using it.
This is the sort of idea I bet a better artist than me could turn into a really cool poster: late night at the gentlemecha's club, all the old guard mechas drinking away their troubles and wondering what the deal is with these funny-looking new kids. Incidentally, if you can't decipher my sloppy, amateurish art, that's supposed to be mecha from Macross and Gundam, next to Gorg, with Ideon and Mazinger represented by the backs of their heads (I shouldn't be surprised that a comic full of GIANT ROBOTS ran out of space quick). Meanwhile, the "new kid's table" is represented by Evangelion, Gurren Lagann, Code Geass and RahXephon, the bartender in the back is Gunbuster, and the paintings on the wall are shoutouts to Gigantor and Magic Knight Rayearth. I ran out of space before I could put Giant Robo in, so let's say he's the bouncer outside.
...and yes, before anyone says anything, I know that lumping Evangelion in with the "new anime" is anachronistic at best. In this foul year of our Lord 2019, Evangelion is more than twice as old now as Giant Gorg was when Eva first came out. But it's still a god dividing line between generational shifts in the mecha genre... and more importantly, those weird, lanky Evas just don't look like they should be at the same table as the big, clunky robots of old.
