It's actually so nice to see a reactor be understanding of where Tao is coming from and not just get annoyed by him or hate on him, in earlier episodes too but especially this one. it sort of feels like a treat whenever I find one haha, it really is that rare! but also, just a quick correction on something: Charlie was heavily bullied for 3 months, not 3 years. you've mentioned it a few times now and it could just be a slip up, or you're remembering it wrong, so thought I should say something. He was outed last year when he was in year 9, which is when the bullying started and I guess just got worse and worse until he eventually told the art teacher about it. he probably still was a "borderline outcast" like Tao called their trio in ep 1 before that too, but the bullying the characters keep referring to is that 3 month period pretty much exactly a year ago: spring term in year 9. and Nick's friends aren't exactly the same exact people who bullied him then, you could see in the way they spoke about Charlie when he joined the rugby team that they hardly knew him, they just knew of him since he was kinda the talk of the school when the whole outing thing happened.

I’ve seen this episode at least a hundred times by now, and it continues to just be so anxiety-inducing and heavy feeling for me personally. It’s incredibly well-done and, like you said about authenticity, it’s incredibly accurate to many people’s lived experiences. Something I think gets looked over sometimes is the fact that when Harry makes these comments, especially using that specific word in the cinema, while it’s all directed at Charlie, it’s indirectly about Nick as well. During Nick’s deep-dive into quizzes and information and articles in episode 3, he read a couple about hate-crimes, and this incident at the cinema is likely the first time Nick has heard that slur directed to his face, even if it wasn’t meant to be about him. So while Nick absolutely felt protective of Charlie, it also had to be quite a personal reaction as well. With Tao, I completely understand where he is coming from and it makes a lot of sense. He feels abandoned and left out and not trusted, and it all came to a head when he told Charlie that this whole situation was all his fault - which definitely only confirms to Charlie that his own overthought belief that everything is his own fault must be true. The episodes are short but incredibly well-paced and contain so many layers to unpack. I’ve loved watching all of your reactions to this season! I can’t wait to watch season two along with you as well!
