Xander in season 1 is just…ughhhh but I really do think he gets better as it goes. I just think it comes down the product of its time and not knowing what to do with his character yet. Interested to see how you take to him later This was a fun episode, not my favorite alot of these in season 1 are kinda forgettable but still enjoyable. LOL I can’t help but laugh at Cordelia she is so funny 🤣

2023-05-23 13:07:57 +0000 UTCXander is really problematic but the main reason for that is that's how all main male characters were in shows or medias at the time. You had to show what we see today as toxic mascunality, as a good thing... I had a hard time liking him too... and rewatching now, you really see how problematic and offensive he can be at times. This episode isn't really a favourite but what I love about it is the twist at the end, didn't expect it to be the kid, they really misled us well. Like you, I even suspected Owen at some point. The other thing I love is Buffy and Giles scenes. Their relationship as Watcher and slayer is a bit like a father-daughter one at times. I also love the scene at the end when we learn more about Giles's past. Honestly, I can't wait for you to watch the character developements for the entire gang throughout the seasons. Loved the comparison of the annointed to Mordred, he even looks similar to Asa Butterfield who played young Mordred in Merlin :) Owen is quite the red flag... but it's so sad when Buffy realises that he's more into her for the thrill and adventures than to be with her... Buffy is such a strong character but Sarah Michelle Gellar also portrayed the more vulnerable side of the teenage girl so well in this scene. About the vampires, I think you misunderstood when Willow, Xander and Owen saw them at the door of the funeral home. It was actually the vampires locking them inside so that they couldn't escape the vampire inside. But I do agree, sometimes, there are inconstancies as to their powers. But it could be explained by how long they've been vampires, older ones might be more powerful than the recently turned. Really enjoyed this reaction. I will watch the second one later :) Hope you managed to get back to your usual sleep schedule now ;)
