I was similar to the 17 y/o at that and kinda still am, it's improved over the last decade but it's below a lot of people's standards, and it's nothing to be proud of it's just a fact of who I am as a person, it's because of my executive dysfunction so I can only really improve for so much. My brain just doesn't produce the same shit other People's does and there really only so much the parents, frankly anyone, can do about it if it is executive dysfunction. It's a hard feeling for those without it to understand. Also as another person pointed out it's pretty similar to The Rot™ that comes from depression, the outcome is usually similar if not identical.

In Nepal it’s normal to eat the orange with the peel on

I mean... the second one just sounds like the rot. I have ADHD and I know it's also a symptom of depression and *I think* anxiety. Just the complete inability to do tasks that better your life. I have had moments where I just wake up, go through the motions, sleep, without doing any chores or really taking care of myself. Meds didn't really help me too much so it's just something that I've had to force myself to get out of. Anyway, divorce, lawyer up, get a therapist, go to the gym, go to therapy more, and then divorce again for good measure

I normally don't comment but the mother is being so ridiculous in the 2nd story I can't believe it's real. It sounds like she's doing almost nothing to help with the situation

2nd one is not hard at all. Disengaging is a normal human reaction, especially when you're hurt, and yeah the silent treatment sucks, but she can't muster the ability to apologize after a week? Honestly the mother in this story seems like a real lazy parent, and the father is trying his best to instill bare minimum hygiene in their daughter.

The thing about 17 year olds is that, above anything else, they don't like being told what to do, they want to prove they can take care of themselves so someone ordering them around will inevitably be annoying Also the mom not taking care of her properly is very bad

saying “cran” instead of crayon makes me feel physically ill. thanks peeps!

I was in a similar situation to the 17 y/o when I was that age (I did shower and brush, but had moldy food n shit in my room). In that specific case it was because I was severely depressed. Things got better for me and I hope things will get better for these people as well.
