Leaking Content from Patreon

We have had constant reports from users that certain streamers are intentionally leaking content from levels. A reminder that the only content you can legally stream at this time is

You cannot stream

If this continues it will lead to us having to remove these levels from the builds and no longer share WIP levels with you all, which is super unfair to the people following the rules. Please respect our guidelines, else you'll end up with less content in the long run

Key for what?

Skyline

How do I get my key I got the second membership and its not in my email

Carlo Orozco

I love ddlc thats a good idea

Qilin 1

It will say after you click on it if your allowed to

Qilin 1

I love those levels honestly especially the tutorial

Qilin 1

which membership did you buy cuz Im pretty sure you only get it for the second or third one

Qilin 1

I’ve seen some people streaming Barnaby’s mansion level. Is that allowed?

Kelci Swain

Should just add a watermark on the game. A unique ID that can be cross-referenced and ban/revoke the individual user who's leaking. A lot of playtests I'm involved in do this. Been in many calls on discord about the leaker ID and basically those associated with them got the hammer as well.

Jason Savickas

You know. People can work around the Screen recording function by modifying their recording executable via hacking it or use a VM. So implement a anti VM thing into it.

BlazingRod51

i bought the membership i dident get the key in my email

Save Alot

I didn’t get it yet

Anthony Santana

should be in ur email

Ivxy 234

How can i get my key 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

Anthony Santana

Don’t worry I go beat em up c:< /j

It's y'all's game so anything goes tbh! I would even go as far to say, what if you did 2 separate builds? One that has content you want to share and that's streamable and one that you also want to share but isn't streamable? Then there's absolutely no confusion as you could do as Jam was saying but for the whole version of the content that shouldn't be leaked. Not sure if that'd make it harder, but figured this might be the way to go about it if you're considering it.

Jordan Mendoza

That said, that part is going to be annoying for me in the final game. I hate rhythm things. I've never played Dance Dance Revolution. Triangle to win in Kingdom Hearts/ reaction things are easy enough, but this seems a lot more sensitive in either screwing up or not than that.

SilverJ17

Pretty sure the updated Barnaby's Chase is okay. After all, they posted it on their channel and I think someone official on the Discord confirmed. It's on the list and I don't think the non-updated is available on the normal build we have now. Just don't stream what they clearly outlined for us not to do. There's even a disclaimer before Dutch's part that tells us not to.

SilverJ17

Can the updated Barnaby Chase can still be streamed without consequence, just curious cause I want to start streaming soon.

Emerald

You know Jamjars_, you might be on to something there! The Alpha Test Streaming Protection Clause (ATSPC): in the event that a playable part of the game is listed as work in progress, it is blacked out in the middle of streaming live rendering it null and void in terms of replayability as a failsafe to protect content that is not yet ready for the public eye

Shelby Kinkead

or they can use Screen Capture API to detect it

Jamjars_

Decent idea, however idk how functional it would be since this game works on steam deck/Linux via protondb. Because of this it may be harder to detect recording software on those platforms. However people playing on those platforms are a minority so it may still be viable.

MariofanL1VE

thats a pretty genius solution tbh, ill look into it, thank you

Billie Bust Up

i may have an idea what if the game can detect if the recording software open, just like in doki doki literature club. so if recording software is open than hide wip levels, and if recording software is closed than unhide wip levels. i don't know if you can do this on a fly?

Jamjars_

Honestly with 6+ years of hard work I’d be in the same boat as you, so I completely agree with your choice <3 I’m so sorry this is happening and it sucks that those people have to go and ruin it all for us following the rules ): but I get it!

Derk T

I'm genuinely not trying to punish anyone with this, I just can't have the levels be streamed. The last 6 years no one has broken this rule, but in the last few days multiple people have. It's a shame but, I'll have to restrict streamable levels to more polished ones. There will still be content for patreon, but they will no longer be able to see the rough stages of a level ;;

Billie Bust Up

Yeah, there is the race the clock element, that would make a good fix up to that point. While developing the watermark, I would recommend not storing the username permanently as plain text in memory. If The watermark is simply constantly reading some plain text, then it would be easy to scan through memory for the username and delete it. However, it would be much harder to search for the watermark if it is stored encoded or as an image.

Dread Pony Roberts

Sadly, "don't do this thing or I'll punish a bunch of people that you [the perpetrator] don't care about" pretty much never works to make anyone stop doing anything. And frequently ends up hurting you -- give your supporters less things in return for their support, and you frequently just end up with fewer supporters. It sucks, but that's kinda the reality.

The Dread Vixen Alinsa

There will always be people shirking the rules for their view count. You're better off removing the content you don't want shared; you'll never be able to actually stop them from doing what they want 'for the lulz'. It's an unfortunate necessity in this age of "FIRST. Lookit how important and trendy and edgy I am by breaking the rules lololololol". Sad but true.

Scott Williams (TalynWuff)

I still want to stream the game at some point but I will be sure not to stream the WIP levels. I don’t want to mess up the development for you.

Travis the Dragon

I just streamed it earlier tonight and was asked over and over to play dance battle, explained to everyone in my stream a million times that creator of this game LITERALLY tells everyone not to! I said i am not gatekeeping. I told them if you want to support the game go to the patreon and you can play it privately. Everyone is really getting hype over the Barnaby Chase play through and me and my chat had a hilarious and fun great time with it!

BaeLitt

Just to be sure can the stages names match the “don’t” stream list. For example the “million gruesome ways to die” title in the game isn’t called “barnaby’s chase”. I just want to make sure I don’t accidentally do something I shouldn’t. I love this game and the direction it’s going so I want to respect all the rules. ❤️

Jackie NerdEcrafter

For about the past week there's been a ton of live streams on Tik Tok of people playing the Barnaby's Chase level on one hit mode. I'm sure this is contributing to the sudden boost in interest and subsequent problems. That's what got us to join - my husband wanted to try the level but there's not a lot of information on how to get the demo available from a simple web search. You may want to add a moving banner (to avoid cropping the image when streaming) that says something to the effect of "game in development, do not stream" for the levels that are not allowed.

Aroenai

While it could be removed using cheat tools, it would at the very least deter people from recording the footage and would make it harder for the average person to do so, it could help slow down any potential leaks in future levels added to the wip build of the game too

Pc Jesus

Sadly this can be removed using cheat tools, if it is blatantly shown that is. If instead it is a subtle watermark that only the game creators know exists, but is unnoticeable to everyone else, then it might be doable. However, any time put into a temporary system like this is time taken away from the actual game development.

Dread Pony Roberts

It sucks, but this will basically be unavoidable going forward, as you continue to grow, especially when you get closer to release. The only way to stop it would be to stop sharing playable areas. I hate it, but these people won’t stop just because they are told to, and I sort of doubt you’re going to go the extra mile of taking legal action against any of them, just for the financial and publicity hassle it could be.

Fusionater

Maybe you guys could add in a system into levels that aren’t supposed to be streamed, like how the suicide squad beta had the whole screen covered with their steam/console username, basically just cover the screen with their name repeatedly but at a opacity that makes it possible to play still. Then whoever records and uploads footage you can see their username and take away their key and ban them from getting a new one

Pc Jesus

Good point I'm just trying to think of a relatively easy way to trace back leakers so I won't be a headache for the devs just awful what's happening

qqwerty659

I mean honestly, when you try to go into the dense battle. A big warning note appears on screen. That tells you, you can't stream. I don't know if everybody reads that but I did. And even though I don't really have the means to make videos of my time on Billie Bust Up, I do pay attention to stuff like that. Unfortunately, not everybody fully reads that stuff though they just click. Yeah, whatever just so they can play The Game.

Kinzo Adolpha

I’m glad we have a bigger fandom now but it ends up for some people to not pay attention leading to leaks and other things

CinnamonR0llz

I second this motion. During the closed, non-streamable beta run of Wizard with a Gun, they have tried to subdue online content of this build by displaying an identifier across the screen, jumping from place to place in 8-10 second intervals and changing from one bright colour to the next with each jump. To clarify, this would prevent someone from chroma-keying or blurring out the name because they would have to do so manually every 8-10 seconds. Livestreaming would become also next to impossible. I'm not sure, but I think that identifier was either the Steam ID, or the Discord ID, or something else entirely. IT would make sense to use the Steam ID though, so it's more easily traceable.

NikoTheFox

I’m still respecting Patreon and discord especially this Patreon honestly people should take their time and read the rest to know what you can really show and stream but some people are too lazy to read the rest that’s why this situation is stupid because people don’t have the time to read whatever’s left 😭

CinnamonR0llz

Steam key as in the key for the game redeem/unlock? I doubt it honestly

Liam Collie

Is it possible to display the person's steam key in work in progress builds to help determine who is the leaker and revoke their steam key and ban them from the patreon

qqwerty659

our patreon was smaller before so no one was breaking the rules, but the newest update blew up and I guess as our community grows its harder to manage. We've had patreon for 6 years now and people have behaved up until this point :(

Billie Bust Up

And I'm partially blind without the screen reader. I'm not really good with wordy stuff

Serena Mary Schutz

I don't know who is leaking the content they're not supposed to, but to be honest, I'm not surprised. Whenever you tell people that there is stuff, they're not supposed to show, eventually, that exact thing will happen. It happens all the time, unfortunately.

Kinzo Adolpha

Not every streamer uses the same user ID for Patreon or every platform. Which is understandable in a sense of seperating yourself from streaming that you may consider your "job" or "career"

Liam Collie

But how many people do they have?

DragonMan_Xt7890

Btw you and the team are doing excellent as a student in game development and design I am following this to get a peak in the development of a game and how it evolves over time keep up the good work

Kaali Sweetsong

They can't track the usernames to the patreon ids.

Lexi Lunarpaw

They literally said no.

Lexi Lunarpaw

We're too small of a team to pursue legal action

Billie Bust Up

Oh

Lexi Lunarpaw

I will be when I can, but I can't track down every persons username to their patreon ID

Billie Bust Up

As a streamer. I havnt streamed this game. But as a streamer I feel embarassed by those who are breaking the rules... Yes. You want to make viewers happy. But rules, legalality and laws still apply. And the streamer still not only must abide the platform they are streaming on but also the devs of the game thats in a beta. If there is a NDA on certain parts of content or game. You MUST abide by it by all means. Yes you may lose viewers. Yes it may hurt your channel. BUT there are other games. And other viewers that will show up. Its not the end of the world if you dont stream these levels... So to those breaking the rules. Please dont. Cuz not only you make us streamers look bad. You are gunna hurt all these loyal fans and people who spent money in a long term... Thank you for coming to my ted talk. <3 Keep being awesome devs!

Liam Collie

Understandable, though unfortunate. Please do what you need to protect your game. I look forward to the final product.

Fig Amarole

Respect the devs wishes.

Retro Freak

Its like the saying one bad apple

Kaali Sweetsong

Why don't we ban those streamers from the Patreon?

Lexi Lunarpaw

he has not sent it

Leland Erno

If there is one can I stream the tutorial

Serena Mary Schutz

Yes, that is very ugly on your part and makes no sense (sometimes)

DragonMan_Xt7890

On gmail

DragonMan_Xt7890

how to get the key?

Leland Erno

That or people are ignoring what the devs rules are and do anything they want because they want to make viewers happy.

Kaali Sweetsong

I just realized I can’t access Frantocos boss

Linc Korn

Hey, so if they keep doing that, they'll take away our levels until they stop? and also why not sue them legally?

DragonMan_Xt7890

could it be cus the duplicated keys issue
