Since our game has no real "main collectable" we still wanted to encourage and give reason for exploration from the player. Hidden treasure chests will be hidden throughout the game. When smashed open they will spew out multiple goodies for the player, similar to a loot box effect from Overwatch. These chests will currently include outfits of clothing for Billie or Oscar and coins that can be used at the local shop to purchase more outfits.
We're also exploring the idea of having ways to expand on the storyline, similar to memory vaults in Psychonauts, however we need to find a way for this to make sense inside the game world. Perhaps history books that expand on the lore of the current level?
Here are two chest variations made by our animator and artist Luke Cutts, we are thinking of sticking with A but adding the handles from B. What do you think?
