Breaking the Silence about the Abney Park Musical

As I think most of you know, I’ve been writing a musical. This is currently scheduled to have a big budget staging either in 2022 or 2023 (I think the later is more likely).

But in the meantime, and likely pretty soon, I will release it as an Audiobook musical!

This will be a fully dramatized musical, with a huge cast of professional (and brilliant) actors, actresses, and singers. You’ll be able to buy it as MP3s, or autographed CDs.

So here is what I’m loving about doing this, in no particular order:

First, this is WAY bigger than an album. Where an album can get away with as few as 8 songs (I’ve even seen shorter), this musical looks like it will contain 18 -20 songs! I LOVE writing music vastly more than anything else in my life, so having the need to write so much music is just highly enjoyable!

Another thing I’m absolutely LOVING is writing for more than just my voice! I’ve had to write for me, but also for the young tenor guy who is arguably the male lead, and write for old men, and write for the female lead, who’s a young girl in her early twenties, and write for the supporting actress, who’s an operatic singer playing a character in her late 80’s…

The joy of doing something this new for me, and this challenging is just amazing for me!

I’m also singing in this a ton, as I’m playing two rolls! I play both the evil villain, and the kindly but rebellious father. Having to show this diversity is just a blast. I’m using my “your a mean one, mister grinch!” voice for the villain, as well as my kindly father voice (think songs like Play and Two Little Worlds, and His Imaginary World), it’s just been pure joy. You will for sure want to get your hands on a copy of the audiobook version of this, as I might not be in the stage version at all!

Oh and this cast is just SO amazing, I feel truly intimidated at times! Intimidated, not for singing (I know I’m a great singer) but in acting! This cast of professions, hired directly from a big time talent agency (BigFish Talent), has been so amazing I was immediately wondering,

“wow, am I good enough to be in my own musical???”

I’ve really had to step up my game to match the level of this cast! Hopefully I can pull it off! 😬

There have also been meetings with a group of Disney Imagineers who are designing the sets, and meetings with the company financing the stage production…honestly the amount of people wrapped up in this is just huge.

In the near future, I’m gunna put this Audiobook version on sale. I dearly hope you buy it, as it might be my only paycheck on this for a while. I’m deeply out of pocket paying the cast, and flying back and forth to California for meetings, and all the other expenses going alone with creating this.

Oh, one last thing. I’m hoping to have another streaming concert soon, to celebrate the release of this audiobook musical! At it, I really hope to have members of the cast, sing their songs from this musical! It should be a total blast, a once in a life time chance to see somthing this unique. I’m thinking this will be in mid to late august.
