Who Da Boss Lady?

Chapter 15

-VB-

Yoruichi knew that she shouldn’t be tracking down an eldritch puppet.

So she didn’t!

She wasn’t dumb. She was a very experienced and powerful shinigami. She knew better than to fall victim to her own paranoia about herself.

Instead, she went and bothered the devil princesses.

“Hello.”

Sona Sitri, the girl who sounded the alarm, jumped and whirled around.

And she looked at her.

“W-Who are you?”

Because, of course, the girl wouldn’t be able to recognize her when she transformed into a cat.

She sniffed.

“I … am a cat,” she drawled out dramatically in the baritone voice that her cat form came with (she never found out why and took too much joy in trolling people with it).

Sona stared down at her uncomprehendingly before pinching the bridge of her nose.

“Why are there so many weird things happening around me lately?” the bob cut styled devil princess bemoaned. She took off her glasses, wiped them, and put them back on. “... I don’t sense any type of energy from you. You must be powerful enough to hide that. Or weak enough that you may as well just be a cat who can talk.”

“Oh hoh? Believe that I am someone respectable like that?”

“Respectable?” Yoruichi finally saw Sona’s calm facade crack. “I found out at a very young age that powerful people are not respectable. In fact, every single one of them are crazy.”

“And you know this how?”

“My sister is a magical girl cosplayer. And she is hundreds of years older than me.”

Fair.

Very fair.

“Oh? Is she cute?”

“...” Sona looked at her with disgust.

Yoruichi let out a content laugh. “Oh, don’t be a boor! What adults do is for adults to do, yes?”

She loved trolling. It certainly kept her mind focused on how to best frustrate the young girl instead of existential crisis and state of her soul.

Definitely.

Sona grimaced. “I don’t want to think about or put ‘adult’ and my sister in the same sentence. The image is horrible and, while powerful and great as my sister is, she is not an adult. I refuse to say that she is an adult.”

“Oohh, I’m sure your sister will be hurt by your words~.”

“Good. Maybe she’ll stop cosplaying as a magical girl then.”

“Hmm. Maybe I should tell her.”

“And who might you be that you would be in contact with my sister? You aren’t Yoruichi-sama or Gabriel… san.”

A devil who spoke the name of an angel without cussing it out? How properly trained! Leviathan always did mention how prim and proper her sister was.

“But what if I am?”

And then released her transformation.

She used the ensuing smoke to get behind the now slightly panicking girl and wrap her arms around her neck and shoulder. And press her naked breasts against her back.

Sona froze stiff.

She looked down. Saw the mocha skin.

“... Yoruichi-sama?”

“Yes,” Yoruichi crooned. “Now, I remember you saying a few words about how crazy powerful people were. I’m sure you didn’t mean me, right~?”

Sona was cute when she was flustered and panicking.

Mari whined as her mom took off her covers.

“It’s time to go to school, honey,” she chided her. “You’re going to be late otherwise.”

She bemoaned her fate as she crawled out of the bed.

“Back straight. You’re not a homeless bum,” her mom nagged, and she grumbled as she did exactly that.

She got into the bathroom and washed her face and brushed her teeth, then walked down the stairs to the living room and kitchen where food was already prepared for her.

She blinked when she saw dad sitting at the table. He didn’t… look like he normally did.

“Why are you dressed up, dad?” she asked as she sat down.

“I’m going to go and meet with your school’s owners.”

She blinked. “Owners?”

“Yes. The Gremory and Sitri Devil Clans.”

She blinked. “Devils?”

“I’ll teach you about the state of Kuoh Town this afternoon. It’ll be part of our lessons. You will learn while dodging.”

She whined and mom just giggled.

Mom, despite how normal she was, was more than happy to see her moving around like a maniac. Was it something that all parents liked to see? Was there some sick joy that all parents got at seeing their children running around like crazy? Or was it just her mom and dad?

She didn’t remember… ah, right. Shirone said she was an orphan. It was just her and her older sister.

She sighed as she started eating… and loved mom’s cooking.

Again, and she will profess this until the day she died, having a chef for a mom was one of the best things she had in her life.

“Are you happy to go back to school?” mom asked as she sat down to her left.

Mari thought about it while chewing on a piece of well done mackerel, rice, and a sip of miso soup. “I guess?” she replied after swallowing. “I can’t tell anyone about what happened, which sucks-.”

“Language,” dad interjected.

She pouted. “... Yeah, so it’ll be a little suffocating, I guess? They’ll know that I’m keeping a few things back, though.”

“Hmm.”

“You might not have to.”

Mari blinked and looked at dad. “What do you mean, otou-san?”

“Like I said. I’ll be meeting with the owners of the school, which will include their peerage. As far as I am aware, several students multiple grades are part of the owners’ peerage.”

“Peerage…?”

“It’s something devils do to bind people to their will. A contractual service, if you will.”

“Oh.”

She wondered if any of her friends were part of the devils’ peerage.

… Wait a minute.

“Vena, aren’t I suppose to fight devils?”

The black eldritch doll popped up out of nowhere, appearing no different than before. “Not exactly, my cute evil magical girl!” she declared with a wink. “Your growth is up to you to decide, after all! I’m sure your parents and I would prefer if you got strong faster, but making enemies doing so ain’t so great! Like the great saying goes, ‘don’t shit where you sleep’-”

“Language,” both mom and dad glared at Venalita.

“So it’s not exactly a bad idea to be on good terms with the devils in your hometown! Even if you go and murder them outside of it.”

“... What are they like?” she asked.

“That’s for this afternoon,” dad spoke up again. “So just enjoy today. Tomorrow, you might not like who you see as your friends, after all.”

“Honey!” mom chided, and dad shut up after that.

But his words kind of made her nervous.

What if her friends were part of these peerages?

What if … Shirone was a devil?
