This character is actually who inspired the initial design of 1AP Sawyer. "Jasmine" 1AP Sawyers first name is from her CDD Sawyers voice actors first name. The Navy designation coming from an early scene in the movie where she wears a sailor's costume. Lauren Faust worked as an animator in this movie and to date this movie is one of my favorites from my childhood.
In this post 1AP Sawyer is dressed in the uniform of a 18th century Navy Captain of the British Royal Navy. 1AP Sawyer's lesbian designation was just a joke at first, all 1AP Navy characters are gay. But soon she found a GF, Sonar Tec named Dixie Cup. As I continued to draw and write dialogue for her, Sawyer challenged my own beliefs on LGBT folks and more than likely moved me along a lot quicker than I could on my own.
