1AP started November 11th, 2011. At this time there was 12 characters, all male, that made up the platoon the comic is named after. It got to a point I wanted to make a female character.
But back in 2011 I could not write a female character. I know it's a little sad to hear, but I really didn't know enough about women to write any sort of respectable personality. I depended heavily on a femme fatale type personality to influence to design her personality. So she was a sexy seductive type. Today she has gotten past that, and by her I mean me, I can write for women now and it turns out you can just write for them like they're not much different than you or I.
While deciding her colors this was her original design. A yellowish coat and red hair.
The purple heart related to the award for combat wounded soldiers. No one actually tries to get a purple heart, it's not an award you seek. So at her conception it was part of her biography that she wasn't "pretty" by the standards of her world.
She wasn't desirable. But she was promiscuous to make up for this.
in the 1960s criminals could opt for military service in place of jail and that is how Cooper found herself in the military. Her back story is quite sad. Her final design had her with brown hair and a mint green coat. She is and remains the oldest female character of 1AP and she has developed more than any other character. Now a SGT she is mentoring her own junior enlisted members notably Pvt. Putter. I'll be sure to show more of them.
