Episode 634 (Part I): Super Metroid at 30 with MLiG

Jeremy: Friends! Something a little different this week. I have a few segments to post from Long Island Retro Gaming Expo a couple of weeks back, but this time around I don't want to jam a couple of unrelated conversations together into a single cumbersome episodes—especially bearing in mind that live recordings can be a little tiring due to the nature of the audio—echo and mic distortion and the like. I've done my best this time to edit out the worst of the sound pollution from this segment. The second segment will arrive next Friday, which is normally our week off. But no rest for us, or for your ears. There's more compelling content on the way! Oh no!

This particular live panel celebrates Super Metroid's 30th anniversary. Of course, I've said plenty about this game in the past... but this is the first time Coury and Try4ce from My Life in Gaming have weighed in. Heck yeah!

Part 2 of my LIRGE presentations is coming next week. Please, as they say, look forward to it.

I know I'm very late, but since Jeremy asked what game before Super Metroid tracked your time and item/secret discovery, Doom did it a year before in 1993. I've heard those 2 games are credited with jump-starting the speedrunning scene as we know it.

Hearing Jeremy discuss Super Metroid is always a pleasure. He used "methodical" to describe the gameplay at one point. That word is more helpful in explaining the game's action than the "other M" word that usually comes up in relation to this series.

Tall Rob

Just chiming in to say that the live sound quality is really good. Nice and clear.

Until the Galaxy is Finally At Peace.

Kormakur Gardarsson

Yes, agreed, every 30 years until Super Metroid becomes a reality.

Nuno Amaral

Fun discussion. I look forward to hearing Jeremy’s episode on Super Metroid in 30 more years.
