This Month In Retronauts: August 2023 edition

Kept you waiting, huh? I (Diamond Feit) have returned from my month abroad and I bring a small gift: Jeremy and I recorded a podcast just for you, our loyal Patreon supporters, while hanging out in our designated booth at Retro World Expo in Hartford, Connecticut. It's on the short side compared to our other monthly episodes, but I think the presence of Jeremy and the raw experience of hearing NBA Jam's Tim Kitzrow riffing in the background make it a fun listen. Don't forget to answer our question in the comments below; we'll return with another community episode in just a few weeks.

(My weekly columns will also return soon, thanks for your patience)

Art, photo, & edits by me. The dog's name is Honey, by the way! Music heard in this episode:

The audio quality wasn't great, but I loved the format! I wouldn't want this format for every Retronauts episode, but it's a fun change of pace in my opinion. I don't play video games nearly as much as I used to (or want to), but the closest answer I can come up with is FF6. I bought the original on SNES and played it for hours on end. I'm pretty sure I bought an early garbage iOS version that I bought and never played for more than 15 minutes. When the pixel remaster came out, I bought it immediately. I haven't even launched the game yet; all I did was look at the concept art that came with the purchase. Given this history, I probably shouldn't buy the next FF6 release, but I probably will anyways...

Huh, on hearing the question this month I thought "hah I must easily have a few titles I slavishly buy every instance of!" but even my most cherished retro Nintendo titles that have seen many reissues I can't completely honestly say I have purchased and played EVERY time they've been re-released or virtual console'd... and being a big PC gamer that stuff mostly never needs to be re-created or ported!
