Debauchery Worlds

Chapter 59

-VB-

Alan Marris

Luthien, Draconis Combine

2983.04.20

One hundred six ships.

Three Pilum Heavy Destroyers, twenty-three Stomata Assault Dropships, Ten Irotryshoka Carrier Dropships, and Seventy Militarized Crawdad Dropships.

It was the largest armada we’ve assembled to date, and it was not the entirety of our naval asset. The majority, yes, but not all of it.

And it was enough to raid Luthien.

And here, we threw away the last of our secrets and openly used “portal” travel. In full view of the recharge station of Luthien’s star, we opened a portal to another universe and then a portal from there to Luthien on this world so that it made it look like we were opening a direct portal to the planet.

Our three destroyers slid on through the portal that was wide enough to accept all three of them at once, and then closed the portal after they went through.

Our other fleet also did the same, though to no audience, and all one hundred six ships directly began to orbit Luthien itself.

This gave them no time to respond, and we were quick to start orbital bombardment of all military installations.

A trio of our Crawdads recorded the scene from slightly afar, just far enough to show the whole fleet.

And from within the fleet, Irotryoshkas and Stomatas turned their MACs towards the planet… and began to fire.

Mechwarriors might compare the scene to battlemechs firing PPCs from how the projectiles glowed with energy and left behind a trail of sparkling light. In atmosphere, they caused devastating sonic booms to anything near their vicinity of travel, and when they struck, the ground rippled like the surface of water and threw up everything into the air if they weren’t instantly crushed by the impact.

This was all to soften up Luthien before we went for the killing blow.

With the MACs, we had more control over where we were hitting. The speed and size of the bullets also meant we could calculate roughly how much damage we did instead of wondering between “city-leveling” and “mass extinction.”

We watched as military base after base, anti-orbital gun after anti-orbital gun, and warehouse after warehouse got flattened.

It was a slow and methodical process that took eleven hours to complete across half of the globe.

But by the twelfth hour, we determined Luthien to be soft enough and sent in our ground forces to mop up the remnants.

Dropships came down from the sky in droves in numbers unseen in his generation.

Colonel Undell Kurita took a deep breath within his Crusader heavy mech.

This was it.

After a full night of bombing, the uppity Coreward Principality finally sent their mechwarriors down.

He looked up at the dropships, wondering where they would land… and his eyes widened when, instead of landing, they dropped their mechs.

He knew that these unorthodox bastards did that from the spies on Cylene who collected information from the battle that took place, but it was another thing to see it for himself as it happened.

The city rumbled again and again as those mechs landed, ranging from barely two heads taller than a tall man to medium mechs.

What drew his attention was not the medium mechs but the smallest mechs.

Those were -.

And then his eyes widened as he watched every single one of the mechs locked in on his position.

“They discovered where we are! Ambush failed! Charge in!” he roared through the comms, and the Coordinator’s loyal samurais of the First Sword of Light charged forward. Jenners bounded their way across the wide avenues. Panthers boosted up with jump jets onto rooftops. Crusaders, Dragons, and Warhammers marched forward, blasting their PPCs, LRMs, autocannons.

The enemy medium mechs extended their hands forwards and …

A wall of light crackled to life in front of them.

His own LRM missiles struck the wall of light and exploded.

And when the black smoke blew away, the enemy mechs continued to march forward without a single singed mark on them.

Then a Jenner ran around them, skirting just past the small gap between the mechs with their walls and the buildings, and blasted them with four medium lasers from behind.

That’s when it was attacked by the enemy ultralight mechs, Dropper-class ultralight mechs. Those mechs jumped on the Jenner. Some fired their guns and lasers at the joints of the mech with pinpoint accuracy. Others threw nets.

Five of those ultralight mechs wrangled the Jenner and brought it down instantly.

But their size and numbers meant that when even a single one of them stepped out from the energy shields projected by their medium mechs, they got blasted to oblivion.

Undell grunted as his Crusader took a laser shot to the shoulder. It should be -.

[BEEP WARNING WARNING. INTERNAL STRUCTURE DAMAGED]

His eyes shot towards his holograms and widened in shock when he saw his mech’s left arm armor showing up as quickly degrading when he wasn’t under fire. He quickly pushed his mech back and around a building to shield it and then pulled his mech’s head around and affected arm up to look at the damage.

There was a hole in the biceps of his mech’s arm. It went through and through.

… The enemy brought many weapons the Combine could reverse engineer. It was even more imperative that they came out victorious today.

He went back out onto the main avenue, and blasted away at the energy walls.

He did not notice that one of the smallest mechs, which weren’t mechs, had come up on him unnoticed and slapped an explosive charge to the back of his mech’s head.

Ten seconds later, Undell Kurita, the youngest brother of Coordinator Hohiro Kurita, died when his mech’s head “spontaneously” exploded in the middle of the battle.

Comments

When someone has decided to stop bombing your cities, it's not because you have a chance, it's because they decided you're weak enough to conquer. If it proves otherwise, they're still in prime position to begin bombing all over again. The fact that they're dumb enough to think ground warfare with mechs is what decides winners is just sad.

Think they are still way for the Magic Bushido Hands to save the day again.

Are you trying to show the kuritans stupidity or their propaganda? How da fuck do they think they can still win? If I were one of em, I would be a loss loss since if the ground forces lose, Marris would just wipe out the whole planet.

Southmonk

The amusing thought they would reverse engineer anything, when your enemy has flattened your capital world and has boots on the ground the odds are most certainly not in your favor. They will be lucky surving the race of the other great house to occupy the devastated world. The combines effectively dead at this point.
