Episode 506: Retro Compilations

Oh holy lord. You know, I (Stuart Gipp, hullo) knew that my hobby horse obsessions would eventually become part of Retronauts, but who knew that I’d get around to retro compilations this soon? Indeed, I sat down (virtually) with my good pal Lewis Clark of SegaDriven.com to sort the Taito Legends from the Capcom Generations from the Namco Museums, with a good bit of Sonic along the way.

It makes sense to me that an episode about compilations should itself be sort of a compilation, so the other half of this episode is an interview with Digital Eclipse’s Mike Mika and Chris Kohler about their work on all manner of fantastic comps, but with a particular focus on the monumentally brilliant Atari 50. Forgive the fact that I get a little fanboyish on this one, but Atari 50 and DE’s work really is that exciting!

There remain many more fascinating compilations to cover, so this subject is likely to make a return visit at some point. Why not sound off in the comments about which retro compilations you’ve enjoyed the most over the years? I promise to read at least one of them.

Great episode here, I was on the fence but have now been thoroughly flung on the side of “I need to buy Atari 50 immediately.” Thank you!
