Chaotic Clusterfuck

Chapter 24

-VB-

I reacted.

Chaos ensued.

I backpedaled as quickly as I could without revealing myself as a parahuman. My clones reacted by reaching out toward me to drag me away from the reckless hero. Armsmaster saw it happen and was moving.

But it was ultimately Faultline whose reaction was the fastest. She grabbed me and pulled me out of the way, but she did it with such force that she pulled herself forward. This made her crash into Battery’s lunge, and got zapped.

I saw it happen with wide eyes before I narrowed them in anger.

“Guards, suppress them!” I “ordered.”

Immediately, my clones in black attacked. I grabbed Faultline and made it look like I was dragging her away instead of easily carrying her over to safety as her team lunged at Battery.

Armsmaster whirled around to fight, but even a premier hero in charge of a veteran Protectorate team like him couldn’t fight four versus twenty-four.

“Tank” was the first to smash into Armsmaster.

“Earth Release: Rock Fist!” he grunted out as he briefly dipped down to touch the ground while also dodging the power armored Tinker’s ridiculously fast halberd strike. The earth rose up and wrapped around both of Tank’s hands and forearms into giant fists that he wielded like they weighed nothing. He smashed into Armsmaster, who chose to jump away from the attack.

But doing so separated him from Miss Militia.

Before he realized this, three more clones attacked him with Tank with their own jutsus.

With him occupied, my clones were free to shape the battlefield to their advantage.

Another one of the black SWAT armored clones clapped his hands and slammed them down on the ground. Before the gun heroine could responded, she was encased in a concrete sphere, trapping her completely in a space that she would not be able to break out without using explosives that would also kill her.

With Battyer occupied, Armsmaster ganged up on, and Miss Militia confined, only Triumph was left to contest against twenty clones who have been training for the past months in all of the systems of power we had access to.

But most importantly, they stepped into my property.

A property of a magus.

A clone who had yet to expose himself activated the Bounded Field, and almost immediately, all four Protectorate heroes crashed to their knees as the Bounded Field suppressed their souls.

“Faultline!” Gregor hissed as he ran over to his boss and friend the moment he saw that the situation was stable. “How is she?”

“Breathing but unconscious.”

Gregor growled as he turned to look at Battery, who was quivering on the ground. “Motherfucking-! That’s the kind of heroes that are in the city?! No fucking wonder the Nazis are running around! Bastards probably make more problems than they solve!”

I turned to look at the heroes. Well, three heroes and a concrete sphere-.

“Someone put a hole in that. She’s gonna suffocate in there.”

Yeah, now … now I had a problem on my hands.

But I was ultimately happier about how powerful my clones were. They easily handled the Protectorate heroes in a manner and speed that was more than acceptable. If the Empire Eighty-Eight came down on me tonight with all of their normal gangsters and capes, then I  could probably defeat them, even without the ajin.

“Oi, Gregor. When she wakes up, tell her that all of you are getting extra hazard pay for what happened here. Alright?”

“Sure, boss,” he said as he picked up Faultline to take her into their breakroom inside.

Mayor Roy Christener was feeling the highs of life.

He got lucky with that random rich boy from outside the city, who came and fixed up one problem after another without even asking for a lot of money from the city. Then he got a lot of favors from his peers who wanted to feel safe against the Batarians, which turned out to be a real worry because they actually came to raid his city!

His city out of all cities in the East Island!

But then the same young man also solved that for South Brockton Bay.

Life was going well because his city and family was doing well. He was becoming more respected. His next election was more or less set in stone. He was -.

Truuu.

Huh? A phone call?

He picked up his phone and looked at the screen.

His eyes widened with excitement. The young entrepreneur was calling again? What other business opportunities was he going to discuss this time? He answered the phone.

“Good afternoon, Mister Marris! How are you doing?”

And then he listened.

“Huh? What happened? Is it something I can help …?”

He listened some more.

And more.

And …

He started to get angry.

“Are you sure?” … “no, no, no. You did the right thing. The government can’t just come in and take your property! That is unconstitutional and unlawful! I fully support you, Mister Marris. No, no, no. You’ve been good to the city. How can the city not pay it back? Yes, good day to you, too.”

The call ended.

He immediately called PRT ENE.

When the receptionist answered, he only had a short phrase to say. “I am Mayor Christener. Get me in contact with Director Piggot, now,” he hissed. The receptionist stuttered before she reluctantly did so.

And then Piggot answered the phone.

“What the fuck is this, Director Piggot, hmm?!” Mayor Christener demanded into the phone.

The Protectorate and PRT was simply carrying out an operation that was within our purview - .”

“That stupid line might work with the goddamn media, but it doesn’t work with me, Piggot. I asked you what the fuck this was about, not the PR bullshit you’re going to have to feed the news once it gets out!”

It was rare that he got angry, but when someone decided to intentionally fuck over his friends, he definitely got angry on their behalf.

He got possession of tinker tech, Mayor Christener. That is a part of PRT mandate,” Piggot ground out.

“Oh, spare me your lies. Everyone knows what happened after the goddamn alien shuttles went down. You just want the Element Zero that he managed to scourge out of those shuttles. Did you think that I wouldn’t know that was your aim? This was an attempt theft! If it wasn’t for the fact that Mister Marris assured me he would pressuring charges himself, then I would have done it on his behalf! Now, what do you have to say for yourself?”

Tu tu tu.

The bitch hung up on him.

“Maybe I will sue them anyway,” he ground out.
