Chapter 46
-VB-
“I don’t like it,” Senna mumbled. She, along with Lucian and others of their order, met in private. “I don’t like how she just … killed him.”
“She’s also not wrong in what she did,” Ada spoke from her spot next to Dess in the ship’s hold where they were meeting.
Their teams hadn’t left Bilgewater yet, though they would tomorrow.
“How can you say that?” Lucian asked.
Dess shrugged. “Both of us are from Piltover and Zaun. It’s too common to see people who … need to be put down.”
“Have you?” Senna asked and masked her trepidation well.
“Yes,” Ada replied, tossing her pink hair back as she began to tie it into a bun. “Gangplank wasn’t as bad as some of the mad scientists we had to put down… but we put down our fair share of people. There’s a reason why we can operate as we do. Everyone in Zaun and Piltover know that if we put someone down, they deserved it. Piltover reacts more like you two, though,” she added at the end.
“What is that supposed to mean?” Senna asked snappishly.
“Irritated. Self-righteous,” Dess chuckled. “They think they are above the laws of the jungle when certain individuals go around breaking them. Piltover, for all of its reverence of civilization and advancements, is ultimately ruled by greedy merchants and noble houses. If it means getting one over their rivals, there are many who would gladly kill a hundred times more in bystanders.” She then let out an explosive sigh. “It must be nice being you two. Happily married and fighting the good fight without having to worry about the murky grey areas the rest of us have to deal with.”
“It’s especially true in the Serpent Isles,” the bulky man among them spoke. “Bilgewater is not a kind city, if you can even call it that,” he added with a chuckle. “I grew up in its shadow. Before I took upon my master’s name, Roman, and his gun. I saw plenty of shit that flowed out of it. Gangplank dying? It’s just another day for this decrepit hive of villainy and survival.”
“Then you think it’s completely alright for someone to act as Vayne did?”
“Gangplank’s stupid action fucked over everyone,” Roman drawled. “It was a question of who would have killed him first, not a question of if or when. I mean, if Noxus did something stupid that causes a lot of deaths over here, then I’ll tell you straight up that the pirates here will take potshots whenever they can. Demacia just got lucky with how close they were.”
Senna sighed in defeat. “Fine.”
“Then what are your thoughts about the people who helped us?” Lucian asked.
“Diana, Riven, Yasuo, Rengar, Irelia, Olaf, Pyke, and Graves, right?”
“Yes.”
“They offered to continue fighting with us,” Ada responded. “I’m perfectly fine with it. We’re actually not enough to take on Viego by ourselves. Besides, they did work with us, and I don’t see much of a problem.”
Roman nodded alongside the Piltover-Zaun members.
“Besides, the membership doesn’t have to be permanent. Extraordinary circumstances, extraordinary stuff-stuff,” Dess nodded with a self-satisfied hum.
“A temporary membership into the Sentinels of Light, huh?” Lucian huffed, a little intrigued by the idea. “And what if … they don’t want to return the weapons? After Viego is vanquished?”
“We can deal with that after Viego is vanquished,” Senna replied, more to the rest of the sentinels than to her husband. “Viego and the Harrowing comes first.” She turned to Roman. “We can’t sail all the way back to Demacia to access our primary armory.”
“I can equip them!” Gwen, who’s been quietly sewing outfits, quickly answered from the side.
“You ca-?”
“KYAAAAHHH!”
All of them shot up and ran out of the cargo hold of the ship and onto the deck, and then grimaced as they looked out onto Bilgewater. Black mists rolled into the city, and wraiths began to rise up.
“But we defeated Gangplank!” Dess hissed.
“... but what if it’s no longer a possessed Gangplank doing this but Viego himself?”
They jumped off the boat and onto the docks before rushing into the city.

Somewhere far away from all of the disaster zones, Thresh hummed happily to himself.
He loved it when events happened according to plan.
He’d planted pieces of the dead queen, the subject of Viego’s love and obsession, into many different souls, ensuring that the revived king would chase all around the world looking for other fragments of her soul.
It was just fortunate for him that the foolish mortal human who he contacted caused more trouble than he expected out of him.
It would be great! The world would be united! They would fight against the obviously powerful wraith-king who ensnares the living! Oh, it would be an epic of the ages! And the king would fight back for his beloved~!
And everyone would forget about him as they broke the very chains that kept him bound in order to chain the king.
Soon… Soon, he would be free. Free of the isles. Free to roam as he pleased.
Free to become the Black Mist’s only master…
