Demon Hunters Part 4

Shuffling could be heard in the apartment of Tom and Bianca as the day began. While Tom had slept off the prior days binge, Bianca had been up all night trying to figure out a plausible way to test if Zendra was a demon or not.

“I could just spray her with holy water, though if by some miracle she is NOT a demon, we’ll  never be allowed back in the diner. I don’t think Tom will like that. “

Bianca glanced over towards Tom’s bedroom, which was still open. The horse had stumbled into bed without changing: the blanket thrown to the side as he laid there. His dome of a gut surged high into the air with each heavy breath, his t-shirt doing nothing to cover his hairy belly.

“He’d definitely be annoyed with the lack of food”, she thought as she sipped her coffee, her third of the morning already. The light and sugary drink kept her awake, though all the excess calories were doing more than just stimulate her energy.

In the 7 weeks since coming into town, Bianca had blossomed. Her lithe and scrawny form had been shed as she had grown very voluptuous. Her breasts surged forward, overgrowing all of her bras, forcing her to go shopping at one of the stores in town. She figured it was a bit of happy weight and the washing machine shrinking things, even if a few things had “shrunk” without ever going in the wash. She was too focused on the perceived enemy in front of her to think of much else.

“Maybe, if I get her to sit with us, and slip some holy water in there, I can get her to try it? That could possibly work. But what if she doesn’t chose to swallow it?”

Bianca tugged on her t-shirt to ensure it covered her pot belly. Her hips and breasts had been the prime benefactors of her weight going up, but her belly had swelled too, getting chubby and bulging in her clothes.

“Yawn, mo-mornin B. Any coffee left?”

Bianca hadn’t heard him get out of bed, but she pointed to the coffee maker without turning around. She was deep in thought, trying to figure out how she could tackle this demon in her midst.

Tom let out a belch after pouring coffee into a cup, before waddling over to see what she was up to. His t-shirt rode up as his once flat stomach, now round belly, surged forward and sagged over the band of his pajama shorts. He had absolutely blown up in those seven weeks, gaining almost 100 pounds in that time period.

Like Bianca, he assumed it was mostly just the vacation theme they were experiencing adding a few pounds, plus the washing machine in their building. Even now though, as his double xl shirt did nothing to cover up his mound of belly, Tom didn’t think there was anything wrong, and he CERTAINLY didn’t’ believe it was coming from the diner.

“B, you’re really not sitting there with holy water and my spell book, trying to come up with ways to bother Zendra, are you?”

“Tom..”

“B, what else do you have to do before you finally let this go? We’ve scanned her for demonic energy, there was none. We scanned the restaurant, there was none. We even took the food home to see if there was a trace of demonic energy or spells, nothing. Can’t you just see that she’s an amazing cook, and that’s why everyone goes there?”

Tom took another swig of coffee and stifled a burp, his stomach rumbling. He was already famished and wanted nothing more than to go to the diner and get an order of flapjacks and bacon smothered in syrup. A bit of drool was already escaping from the side of his mouth, which he had to quickly wipe off.

“Look Tom. There’s just something off about that place ok? I get a weird feeling whenever we go in there, like I’m being watched.”

“I mean you are the one who cast a spy spell on the place”, Tom replied matter of factly.

“That’s not what I, you know what? Fine. Let’s just go down there and I’ll prove she’s a demon, okay? I’m going to give her a little holy water and when she starts choking and we have a fight, don’t say I didn’t warn you, deal?”

Tom had never seen Bianca get this agitated before and honestly, for a second, he thought about agreeing with her. Then, however, he thought about all the stupid spells that had been cast or hours spent looking at a tablet or laptop monitor, all for something he deemed “pointless”. This got him agitated himself, but also a little complacent. He usually would be the one to calm Bianca down but right now, he just wanted her to be quiet so they could go and eat.

“Fine B, fine. Let me just get dressed and we’ll go.”

*

Per usual, the diner was packed, though Bianca and Tom were accustomed to this by now. Furs that had been coming to the diner since day one tended to get there early and stayed until at least lunch. It was partly the reason why Zendra had been public about her desire to expand, which the mayor seemed on board with (he was a loyal customer after all).

Thankfully though, Zendra had been able to maximize all the space she had to add about 12 extra tables for the moment. It wasn’t much, but getting that extra 24 or so people in really made a difference.

Tom stared at the diner counter almost lovingly, watching each plate pass from the cook to the waiting waiter/waitress, and then those piping hot plates of food were brought to the eager furs at the tables. Each fur always had a massive smile on their face, which, especially if it was an more “seasoned customer”, would show off a fattened muzzle or double chin. Neither demon hunter really thought much about that, though they should have. For now, the duo were in their own worlds; one of the belief that a demon was holed up in town, and the other just wanting their vacation to be relaxing.

After an abbreviated wait, the pair were seated at the counter. They ordered their food and kept asking for Zendra. However, each time they did, they were told she had gone shopping and wouldn’t be back for a while. This annoyed Bianca and she grew somewhat mean to the waitress who was assisting them.  Several times Tom had to apologize to the poor ferret who was just trying to do her job.

As the frustration set in, Bianca took her anger and annoyance out on her gullet, specifically filling it to the point that it was almost painful. Eggs, bacon, pancakes, toast, all of it found their way down her throat and into her ready and waiting stomach. So obsessed with catching Zendra that she didn’t even bother to think of all the calories she had consumed. In a flash, she had eaten well over four thousand calories and didn’t even bat an eye.

Tom meanwhile was doing just as well, though he had gone in trying to eat that much. It seemed each bite only made him hungrier and hungrier, nothing satiating his now seemingly ravenous appetite. Sausage, buttered toast, Belgian waffles, nothing seemed to make a dent in his cravings. He just wanted more and the longer they sat there, it was exactly what he got.

Eventually, after over two hours of sitting on their comfortable stools, Bianca had had enough. It was obvious that Zendra wouldn’t be back before they got back to their apartment. They both rose to leave when they glanced outside. As they did, they saw a blue pickup truck park in the managers parking space, followed by the obese otter stepping out and making her way into the restaurant.

“On second thought, we will take that lunch menu. Oh, and can you get Zendra for us? Just want to ask her something quick. Thanks.”

The ferret nodded her head and went to the back to get her boss.

In a few moments, Zendra entered from the back, all smiles. She was a jovial otter, actually quite tall for her species. She was about 5-9 and at least 300 pounds. She wore it well though, looking like a plump chef of a successful restaurant should. She waved to the two as she approached, happy to see them.

“Ah, glad to see my little vacationers are here enjoying themselves. Food ok today? Service too?”

The otter extend a big hand to shake Tom and Bianca’s. As she grabbed Tom’s hand, Bianca grabbed her vial of holy water and quickly dumped it into her soda, which was still about half full. Now was her chance.

“Service was great, but I do have a complaint. Have you checked the tanks on your soda machine? I think they are busted.”

“What do you mean?”

“It seems like they are a little flat, at least mine were”, she responded as she took a sip of the soda. It had been perfectly fine, but she knew a perfectionist like Zendra might try the soda to see if she was correct. “Ugh, definitely flat.”

The otter still had a smile on her face, but she was displeased. She didn’t like things going wrong, especially something as simple as a bad O2 tank.

“I’m so sorry Bianca. Let me take that and get you a new one. Or I can get you a shake instead. Free of charge of course.”

“Oh, um, a shake would be lovely”, she bluttered out before even thinking about what she was trying to do. She snapped back to reality quickly though, and remembered what she was trying to do. “But, before that, why don’t you try this first, just to see if I’m crazy or not? I’d hate to be wrong and make you do extra work for no reason.”

As they stood, Bianca pushed the soda towards Zendra, hoping it would cause a reaction. It was blessed by three priests and laced with a holy spell as well. If Zendra was a demon, this would kill her almost instantly.

“Good point. Well, bottoms up!”

The otter tilted the glass back and took a very large swig. Immediately, she grabbed her throat, waving her hands frantically around.

While this was going on, Bianca elbowed Tom in the gut, and hard.

“I told you! I told you! And you said I was lying. Now, now we can take care of this.”

“Yuck, that was so flat AND went down the wrong pipe. Sorry for the overreaction.”

Tom and Bianca turned to see Zendra putting the glass down, clearly having drank a good amount of it. She coughed for a few more moments, before catching her breath once more.

“Whew, sorry. That’s really bad and tasteless. I’ll have that shake brought out, thin mint, right?”

“Um, yeah”, Bianca said, as her face grew redder.

“Gotcha. Oh, what were you yelling about being right about?”

The fox stammered, not knowing what to say. She was totally lost at this point, her plan having failed. Luckily, Tom stepped in.

“I doubted that it was flat, even after tasting it. But I’m a little less refined than you two I guess, I’ll eat and drink anything!”

He laughed, hoping this would ease the tension that had built in the air. It did.

“He-he, nothing wrong with a man who likes to eat, least that’s what my momma used to say! He-he. I’ll be right back with that shake, and that tank WILL be changed too! See ya!”

As she left, the two furs sat back down on their stools. Tom shot Bianca a harsh look, one that she didn’t return. She was too busy wallowing in self doubt.

“I just couldn’t be wrong, could I”, she asked herself until the shake got there. Without even putting her head up, she grabbed the cold beverage and began drinking it, wondering if she was losing her mind.
