New Employee 2

Cass sped up the treadmill as she let the music from her iPhone drown out the standard music that Mango-Fitness played while classes were going on. She didn’t mind it but today she just wanted something to drown everything else out while she exercised.

She had been at her new job for just over 11 days and needed a break from the monotony of just staring at a computer screen entering numbers, making copies (which annoyed the copy center guys), calling in other offices to set up Zoom meetings, and all the other stuff that went along with being an assistant. It was tedious and even when she was able to listen to music, the incessant chewing from all the people near her cubicle was enough to drive her insane. She NEEDED this workout.

As she jogged, letting her feet hit the treads hard but soft on her feet, she watched as one of her friends, a penguin named June Dunkirk, hop up on to the treadmill next to her. The fit penguin smiled as she put the machine on to a slow walk to get warmed up.

“Hey Cass. How’s it going?”

Cass nodded, still focused on her run. She wanted to get a good sweat in after a long day of work in a very loud environment.

“Haven’t seen you in her in a few days, everything ok? I know you tend to do your workouts in the morning, but I was here Wednesday at 6 am and didn’t see you.”

June ramped up the speed on the treadmill and got up to a jog, keeping pace with everything as she did so.

Cass lowered the volume of her music and turned to her friend.

“Sorry June. Was just trying to drown things out. I’ve been busy at work is all, haven’t been able to get here in the morning the past two weeks. New job is a bit of a pain.”

The two birds kept jogging as they chatted.

“Ah, that’s right, you started a new job! How is it? You’re at Gluttco, right?”

“Yeah, in their finance department. Working for like the assistant branch manager for the east coast. Pamela Sanderson.”

“How’s she as a boss? I hear Gluttco has a relaxed atmosphere and they pay really well.”

Cass grabbed her water bottle, took a big swig from it, then put it back before grabbing her phone to lower the music in her headphones.

“You should have seen her.” I did my interview remotely and while I could tell she was fat during it, I had no idea just how friggin huge she was! She has to be at least half a ton. At least!”

Cass shuddered just talking about how big her boss was.

“Yeesh. That’s a big woman. Don’t get on her bad side, she might eat you, he-he.”

The two girls laughed.

“Only if I was made out of chocolate! I don’t think she eats any “lean meats” ha-ha.”

The two women continued their workout, joking about how fat everyone in Cass’ new office was.
