Becoming the New Mascot

Hey everyone. So this is one part of the Christmas themed items I have for you all this year. I got to work with the very talented Vetoknox for the first time and his art work is as good as advertised.

This is a six part sequence that I will be posting for FREE on this site and my other platforms. I just wanted to thank everyone for their support and kind words over the years.

The Murd story/illustrated novel will be released closer to Christmas and will be behind the pay wall.

If you haven't already, check Vetoknox out and support them anyway you can.

Thanks again.

“Free coffee and donut! Free coffee and donut!”

A large otter was in the middle of the sidewalk holding up coupons and wearing a donut costume. He was trying very hard to get people to take one, though no one was biting. It probably didn’t help that he was standing in front of a trendy gym, but his pitch wasn’t that great either.

“Whew, that was some workout.”

Alexis Akers stepped out of John Street Powerhouse Center and took in a breath of fresh air. It was the end of September, just days after the , but it was still rather chilly. The doe was used to it being a little chilly, as evidenced by the fact she was in a crop top and shorts. Her abs were on full display and the outfit showed off her six pack and powerful arms and legs. She looked in the glass window for a moment, gave a flex, and took a sip of her protein shake before making her way back towards her house.

“Free coffee and donut! Free coffee and, hey miss! Miss!”

Alexis looked up from her shake to see the otter in front of her in his silly costume. She almost laughed before composing herself.

“Yes?”

“Oh, wow. You’re like the second person today who has talked to me and the first who didn’t tell me to get out of their way.”

The deer regretted it almost immediately as she saw him begin his sales pitch. She just wanted to get home and take a nice shower to relax.

“Ok, look, I’m kind of in a hurry and I’d really like to get home so I could take a shower. So, if you don’t mind I’ll just.”

“You’re right. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. Uh, here, have a coupon! Free coffee and donut at “North Pole Donuts!”

“North Pole Donuts? Never heard of it.”

“We just opened up two blocks over. We’re a great place, lot of amazing options and a friendly staff to make sure your donut needs are met.”

The otter stuck out his plump hand, which contained the coupon. It was blue, with big black letters describing what the value was. Alexis was unimpressed.

“That’s great but as you can see I don’t eat donuts and I can have coffee at home. Thanks but no thanks.”

She went to move around him but his costume impeded her progress. Not wanting to get physical, she tried going around him, but another fur was in her way. She was growing irritated, until she felt something brush up against her hand. She soon realized that the otter had placed the coupon in her free hand.

“Just please take it. Even if you don’t go it looks at least like I’m making some headway. Thanks!”

He turned back towards the street, which cleared a path for Alexis to get through. She wasted no time and rushed past him, still holding the coupon in her hand.

She had crossed the street when she looked down at the item in her hand. The big bold “Free coffee and donut” seemed to stare back at her. It sent a chill down her spine, making her actually feel the cold for the first time since she had stepped out of the gym. She didn’t like it.

“I better get home and shower before I get sick”, she thought.

Alexis did not get far though. She was just about to jog down the two blocks to her house when she saw a bunch of balloons and signs all over. She saw the words “Grand Opening” and realized she had walked right to the donut shop.

“Ugh. I didn’t see this before on my way to the gym. I must have been too focused on getting in a workout”, she tried to reason.

She could smell the sugar, the chocolate, the jelly, all the flavors of a donut shop that one would expect. They were so strong though that she could practically taste them as she stood there. Her resolve, however, was much stronger than the average fur, so this wouldn’t sway her to get a donut. Coffee though…

“I’ll just get the coffee and get pawn the donut off to someone, no harm, no foul.”
