It was so awesome having a guest customer in the store with us this week -- and if you are an Aftershow listener, we have a packed episode for you which features even more content with Matthew David Wilder. Until then, let's get on in to this week's newsletter!
Have you noticed that we've started running polls for listener's choice? This was one of my favorite things that we did last year for our Season One Awards. We ended up highlighting your thoughts -- and I'm hoping this year to do it bracket style and see who comes out victorious! So make sure to cast your votes for this week and every week to follow.
This week, I thought we had some really cool titles. First up, we have Quentin's awesome box of Of Unknown Origin. From the original collection, this is tape number 1457.
You know that I don't love clamshells, but these Warner clam shells are awesome. I love the color theory of this box and the use of the poster (which has been shred up by a ... rat ... alien ... husband?).
The pictures on the back of the box make it seem more like it's a family fighting this rat. The rat wants to scare "them"? No, it just wants to scare Bart Hughes!
Now, for one of the coolest boxes I have ever seen. Every time I hear the audio clip of Quentin saying that this box is my "type", I laugh. But it's true.
I love everything about this box. I love the font. I love that Vic Morrow's name has its own font treatment. I love the color of it. It's so smokey and dreamy. I love the art. I love the funeral being on the box, and I love the fact that they go for it by showing you Vic Morrow's likeness in the scope.
I don't always show the spines, but this one was special. Again, this font!
On the back of the box they carry through the sniper scope theme. I don't love clamshells, but we're two for two this episode!
And for our final movie of the week -- One Night Only! In this title treatment, it gets a little special flair of an ellipsis. "One Night... Only!"
Can't you see that this looks just like when Kim K "broke the internet"? For those of you who have never seen this graphic, sorry that I'm the one posting it!
Honestly, the Kim K image looks so photoshopped and unnatural, I'm not sure how this was the image that "broke the internet". Our box of One Night Only, on the other hand, looks all natural, baby!
I love Key Video and their rainbow uniformity. This is one of the dark blue rainbow boxes, which is my favorite. On the back are some of the most random pictures to have shared from the movie but, c'est la vie!
Normally, on next week's Aftershow, we'd cover the movie I didn't see (One Night Only). However, we have something else coming next week ... a conversation from the vault!
Last season we didn't let you know when a vaulted episode was coming, but you guys have been loving getting "homework" assigned to you, so here's a clue to help you out on what we'll be discussing next week.
The vaulted movie comes from the master of suspense himself and is another animal horror movie -- but this time, they fly!
I think the clue is pretty easy, but in case you need help figuring it out, join the community chat and talk with your fellow patrons. And, if you don't listen to the Aftershows but you're looking for some more movie recommendations while you wait for the next episode, check out this list by Mike Kenny for all of the movies mentioned in this episode.
