I hope everyone reading this has stayed safe and healthy over the past week. It's been a whirlwind over here, but if you've been keeping up with all of my writings (and the community chat), you'll know that we are all okay on this end and we're beginning to try to get back into the swing of things. The Cinema Club is open for business (with tons of sold out shows), we're back to chatting it up, and I'm even going through my rental shelf again and watching some good (or not so good) flicks that I picked up for a dollar at my favorite video store in town, Be Kind Video in Burbank.
Speaking of picking up tapes, my tape for The Ultimate Thrill came in! The guys joined me back in the store after hours to talk more about this ski-sploitation film and to uncover exactly what the "ultimate thrill" really is. No spoilers here, but make sure you go and listen to the episode to figure it out.
I loved Quentin's reaction to the box I got for this movie. It was even funnier in person, because I started trying to talk about the film, and it took him a few seconds to register how cool my box was that he had to stop and we had to talk about it. I really loved his enthusiasm for this design, and it's going to be hard to beat as my favorite box of the season.
I love all of the little touches on this box, but as I pointed out, my favorite part is the title treatment. I love how it's written in blood and how the "i" is dotted with a heart. It just further proves exactly what the ultimate thrill really is. I wonder who designed this box.
The other box that I talked about on the Aftershow is less cool ... it gets a negative rating from me for all the reasons I mentioned on the mic. Look at how crooked it is! Look at how the title is wrong! I would never in a million years pick this movie up based on this box ... so I'm glad I have Quentin and Roger steering me in the right direction.
At least they got the title right in the description ... come on Avid, do better!
Now that I'm thinking about it, I would love to have seen The Andersonville Trial with a cover like The Ultimate Thrill. I think the font they use on The Andersonville Trial -- at least for the word Andersonville -- is what modern day audiences would refer to as the Avatar font. Am I wrong?
Anyhow, just a quick little newsletter from me to check in and show off the boxes. What other stuff would you guys like to see in these newsletters? Let me know below.
The clues to next week's episode have been posted -- and figured out -- in the community chat, so if you need any help with what to watch over the next few days, make sure to head on over and join.
xoxo gala
