The Thin Man is one of my favorites!! Later in the movie series they go to Nick Charles’s parent’s house and solve a murder in his hometown, it’s called The Thin Man Goes Home. He comes from humbler beginnings than Nora and it’s interesting to see his backstory. His mom is played by Lucile Watson who was so good and reassuring in Cukor’s The Women. I love every movie William Powell and Myrna Loy did together and a lot of them were Woody Van Dyke directed. One that wasn’t directed by Van Dyke but was fantastic was Libeled Lady, with Powell, Loy, Spencer Tracy and Jean Harlow. The guy that plays Myrna Loy’s frustrated dad in that one is one of the funniest people ever to be on screen (and he was also a frustrated dad in My Man Godfrey with Powell). It’s especially fun because Powell and Harlow were together in real life at the time and the real world twinkle in their eyes shines through big time. Remember Last Night is also a great one — the pre Father Knows Best Robert Young in his beautiful ascots and Sally Eilers is just luminous, as she is in Sunrise:A Song of Two Humans. What beautiful programming this week! Loved hearing about it.
