Hey guys, Gala here with today's boxes!

First up, we have Quentin's box of The Substitute. Tom Berenger is looking very stern on this cover, with both a notebook and a gun on his table. I wonder what kind of math he was making the students do, it looks pretty complicated!

I also really love the title treatment on this Live Entertainment box. It looks like it's been etched in chalk on the chalkboard.

Second on our billing is the first "turgid tearjerker" that we are featuring this season: The Promise.

I really loved watching you guys discuss the clues, specifically for The Promise. You guys had some great suggestions as to what it could be: Never Been Kissed, Kiss Me Goodbye, Moon Over Parador ... but my two favorite guesses were The Umbrellas of Cherbourg and Somewhere in Time. I'd love to cover those two on the podcast!

And Pancho Villa's box...? Well, as you guys heard there was no box for the movie on the main show, but don't worry -- I've got you covered on next week's Aftershow.

This was short and sweet, but I'll see my season pass holders next week -- and yes, Roger told me that was an actual thing they had at the Archives! For everyone else, be on the lookout for next week's clues in the community chat as to what's playing for episode 4. There's a movie next week that I am SO excited we are talking about!

See you guys then!

xoxo gala

Mark above makes a reference to Stand and Deliver and Kevin mentions Dangerous Minds. I remember there was like a sub-sub genre of teacher vs. students films. In the 80s but I guess it goes back further although I for some reason wouldn't include Blackboard Jungle in it as that seemed more like one of those 1950s Juvenile Delinquent films. For some reason, this sub-sub-genre starts for me with Stand and Deliver even though that was a film about a teacher trying to help his students than going to war with 'em. Then The Principle with Jim Belushi. Class of 1984 which might pre-date S&D but I found out about that film much later. Dangerous Minds as mentioned above, but I remember when that film came out so I perceived it a bit differently as opposed to the films that were already out waiting for me to discover them. A few years later in 1997 came out 187 with Sam Jackson. I was working at a 14 screen movie theater back then and we still didn't get that film. One of our sister theaters nearby got it so I signed in to see it there. It was def another teacher vs. students film that got kind of weird towards the end, Or so I remember, probably wouldn't feel weird today. This reminds me of The Substitute sequels with Treat Williams which I believe were all straight to video. Will need to check them out.

I would watch that version! lol Would totally be down for a VAP discussion on The Perfect Weapon.

Kevin William

"STAND AND DELIVER meets Jeff Speakman!"

Mark Ibarra

So cool !

The blurb on the box for THE SUBSTITUTE calls the movie “‘Dangerous Minds’ meets Steven Seagal.” WTF blurb person?! On Seagal’s best day (which would be UNDER SEIGE) that jackwagon couldn’t get within spitting distance of Berenger’s performance here. Blowing stuff up? OK fine.

Kevin

Thank you Gala for showing us these beautiful boxes! 📼♥️📼
