The Duke of West Point Poster

Hey everyone, hope you figured out our clues for episode 202. We wanted to share this picture that was taken just after we finished recording the episode. No, it's not one of the movies talked about -- but Quentin was excited to share this beautiful poster design for The Duke of West Point with Gala, and producer Josh captured the moment so you could all see it as well!

This poster variant was designed specifically for the Swedish release of the 1938 United Artist film starring Louis Hayward, Tom Brown, and Joan Fontaine. The one sheet has been excellently preserved and is mounted on acid free archival linen.

If you're in the Los Angeles area, several Louis Hayward films will be playing this month at the Video Archives Cinema Club and on the big screen at The Vista -- as well as some Video Archives Season 1 favorites, so make sure to check it out!

What is Ice Hockey?….from Australia….only ice we see is in our alcohol

I agree: a gorgeous poster. I’m guessing it’s the only existing one.

Joseph T. Porter

That's what I call some beautiful classic poster design. Unfortunately, the movie itself never made the jump over the big pond to Germany (I checked for our poster design).

Dominik Starck

Yes, but they were also posted in our Customer Chat over in the community section! Several people figured it out, so head on over to the chat to get the clues.

So, the VHS on the table are for episode 202? I have no idea what it is...

Hey Jeffrey! The title Hertigen av West Point translates to The Duke of West Point in Swedish—'av' just means 'of.' So there’s no 'CW' or extra 'AV' in the title itself—just Hertigen av West Point! 😊

Quentin’s face says it all—he’s lit up like a kid at Christmas over this gorgeous, deep blue Swedish poster for The Duke of West Point! As a Swede, it’s extra cool to see hockey making a cameo here; back in the day, it was just catching on in Sweden, so this poster’s a rare crossover of film and sports history!

Lou Hayward was the name of John Forsythe’s character in Scrooged

Chris Bligh

This poster is so much more classy than the poster for the US release. I love the hockey hijinks going on in the Hirschfeld-like sketch at the bottom, and I love the dreamy blue romance of this one sheet compared to the wonky US poster which looks like The Music Man or something.

Raj

That's awesome! Love from Sweden! 💕

Nadja Lennartsson

Dig these posts! You three are taking the notion of Archive in so many cool directions this season!

Andrew Hageman

Quentin looks so happy to be showing it, that’s great!

Jason Hensley

Thank you. 😊

Jeffrey Hemphill

Oh it’s AU which is a French word. 🤣

What is the CW for after HERTIGEN? (or is it an AV?)

Jeffrey Hemphill

That's incredible!

Darren Franz

Love it!

So cool!
