Somehow this didn't come up in my feed. Came across it accidentally. I want more conversations of the sad state of cinema from "grumpy" Roger (his words not mine) and "what constitutes a movie nowadays" sort of discussions. Go, Raj, go!

Keith C

All of these comments about film and digital differences bent my mind. So much truth. I have seen three movies in cinema this week and I can’t unsee the things I’ve learned. My still shots will never be the same. I feel like I could make 6-8 epic tee shirts from the Roger quotes in this.

Jeffery Stanley

Wow, Gala. You’re your dad’s most trusted writing partner. He says he can feel comfortable being open with his ideas around you. That is so touching. You guys are the greatest.

Jeffery Stanley

This was just marvelous introduction into depth of mind of Roger . .. just his love for film and explanation of the difference was mind blowing.. longest interview I watched in a while ! Very cool! I love film too and clearly sow the difference from the beginning.

Aleksandar Adzic

How do you know, lol.

Paul Rowlands

I liked, that there was so much talk about “The Rules of Attraction.” It's impressive how self-sacrificing Roger was to make his film. It was worth it. We have one more cinematic masterpiece for eternity.

Michael Mohrdiek

Dankeschön ❤️

Raj

No, but that's a good choice.

Raj

Done! A very interesting and moving Interview! I think it's great, that Roger appreciates Kubrick so much. I read on Wikipedia, that there ist an audio commentary by Keith Gordon and Roger on Kubrick's "The Seafares". Unfortunately It is not on my Spanish DVD. Does anyone know, where I can find It?

Michael Mohrdiek

Is the future obscure Canadian sex comedy that will feature on a VA episode The Decline of the American Empire?

Paul Rowlands

35 min mark “… then everything is dark, dark as can be… Denis Villeneuve can’t make a movie without the lux being dialed down to almost invisible.”

Daniel Rangel

Now I need "The Roger Show".

Gerardo Preciado

Did not see this crossover coming! Lol

Inside the briefcase was a very tiny Bruce Leroy.

Mark Ibarra

Listening now!

Ken SGV

Nevertheless, influences.

Raj

People have also brought up other cinematic influences, and both that I can recall involved radioactivity and radioactive glow. I don't believe that would be the most "beautiful" thing ever. i think it would burn your retinas out.

Raj

I like the gold theory, gold *something* at least, except that gold is so heavy. When they sling that case around it doesn't bely the weight of gold.

Raj

I thought it was gold because of the glow. I've seen people say it's a soul but I don't buy that. Based on people's reaction though diamonds do make the most sense. "Is that what I think it is?" Confirming that it's real diamonds makes most sense. But doesn't explain the gold glow.

Marty Moose

I'm with you on Roeg. My kinda director. I've had the book Cosmos since getting it as a Christmas present as a child, and I love it, but Cosmos the series is nothing without Vangelis. Vangelis sells it.

Raj

He said diamonds were in the suitcase. Closest to confirmation we'll ever get.

Marty Moose

(At least if it were me looking into it.)

Raj

I can’t speak for Quentin, but I’m pretty sure Roger and I are both fans of Roeg’s movies! -gala

Take it easy. They may come from the same germ of an idea, but Dogs & Pulp are different expressions of that idea. And when have you seen diamonds glow like that? Also, would diamonds really elicit that response? I doubt it's diamonds in Pulp's briefcase.

Raj

OMG, Roger just let slip what was in the Briefcase in Pulp Fiction. FREAKING DIAMONDS?!?!?

Marty Moose

The death of mythology gave birth to the movies - Nic Roeg. I know you are probably going to shit on Roeg in an upcoming episode, it’s a given at this point, but he is to me that word cinema. His films Eureka (probably his best film and Gene Hackmans greatest performance), Insignificance, Castaway, Track 29, Cold Heaven, all completely dismissed and ignored, are all masterpieces within their own right. When I study physics, time, read about alchemy, magic, even the idea of a miracle, Roeg feels like one of the only filmmakers to ever truly capture that in his images. His films are like a kind of magic as silly as it may sound. When Roger is waxing over the magic, the alchemy of film itself, he’s just describing Nic Roeg films to me. That’s how deeply ingrained they are in that kind of magic. When I read Carl Sagan’s book Cosmos, it felt similar to the trip I experienced going through Roeg’s films but without the images that retain so much. His images feel like they come straight from the brain. Like flashes of memory and similar to a dream. Secrets buried in them. Im just in awe of how human they feel whilst retaining the fun of film. They are sincere in ways I feel is mostly impossible to be when making films.

Wow
