201 VHS Covers and Showtimes

Hey everyone! Gala here. I'm so happy to be back in the Archives! I just wanted to share a few pictures of the tapes that Quentin and Roger watched for this episode along with some showtimes of the flicks that are around the Los Angeles area.

First up we have our main feature. I was as shocked as you guys are by the revelations in the episode (no spoilers!). We'll go into a little bit more about this in next week's Aftershow, but here's the tape the guys watched on!

If you're interested in seeing Narrow Margin, this exact tape is playing at the Video Archives Cinema Club on November 1st and 2nd, or at the New Beverly Cinema on 35mm on November 1st and 2nd.

Next on the docket was The "Human" Factor. This tape will also be playing at the Video Archives Cinema Club as the second half of the double bill with Narrow Margin. Want to see it on 35mm? It's is also playing at the Bev on 35mm on the 1st and 2nd.

Y'all know I am a cut case hater. Don't tell Quentin, but I prefer my Sybil Danning Adventure tape. Quentin goes more into Sybil in next week's Aftershow.

And, lastly, we have crime in Riverside. Killpoint! I don't have a screening for it, but make sure to keep up with the Video Archives Cinema Club's Instagram and Twitter for any possible updates.

That's it from me this week! I'm busy putting together our very first Aftershow, which will drop on Patreon next week. Make sure to let me know in the community chat if there's anything you guys would like to see on the episodes, and see ya later!

Just finished watching Narrow Margin. Man that movie moves! It's gonna play great with a crowd!

Bryan

Thx for replying!

Paul Rowlands

Hey Paul! No prep this time around for any new movies. However, after show 202 you’ll need a little prep 👀. Gala listened, so there will be a clue for the vaulted episode so you can prepare ahead of time.

Do we need to do any prep for the aftershow? Any particular movies you’ll be covering?

Paul Rowlands

It's a brilliant idea, really -- and should be revived! I guess TCM has somewhat kept the tradition alive when they have guest stars introduce their favorites. And it' s great! They could do it as streaming channel. In fact -- marketing idea for the VAP Cinema Club. Partner with one of the streaming providers to do a "Cinema Club" channel, which streams nothing but VAP Cinema Club selections!

marks here too! that story about menachem golan and the apple. oh man. lol

The Sybil Danning "Adventure Video" branding in 1984 must have been a significant hit, because a year later, Paramount hired Joan Collins to host her own branded line of movies, "The Joan Collins Selection," which, like Sybil, had her doing intros and outros for movies Paramount owned but she mostly did not star in, like ONCE IS NOT ENOUGH, ALFIE, and LIFEGUARD. And in 1989, during a brief relationship with Warner Home Video, Cannon started a brand called "Party Girl Theater" where Ginger Lynn Allen did intros for '70s T&A movies released by Cannon before the Golan & Globus takeover, like CHERRY HILL HIGH and THE YUM YUM GIRLS. To paraphrase a joke from Mad Magazine, never underestimate hiring an overdeveloped woman to help sell an underdeveloped movie!

Haha, that Sybil Danning tape is sick!

It's so dope to see those well-thumbed, worn-down VHS covers from the episode! There’s just something special about those old tapes, like they’ve got a story of their own. Thanks for sharing, Gala, and keep up the awesome work!

Just recently picked up the 4k of Narrow Margin from Kino Lorber. Time to watch it.

So excited for Season 2. Speaking of VHS Tapes please one day on the show have Quentin and Roger review the VHS Tape for Pulp Fiction. Not the movie (they’ve talked about it enough already!) I just want to know about the tape!

Kel

Have you seen A Sound of Thunder? It's a butterfly effect type sci Fi movie from Hyam's that's fun. The effects are kinda not completed but they released it anyway!

Bryan

The Human Factor is on Shout TV. I highly recommend that streaming service, not the Amazon add on but the actual one. It's only $4 a month or $40 for a year and it has tons of great stuff on there!

Bryan

I'm so excited for Season 2! This is going to be epic!

I think it's great, that Peter Hyams is getting more recognition through Season 1. He deserves that. He was completely unknown to me before the "Relic"- Show and now, he is one of my favorite directors of his generation.
