It’s not that erasing Sunny‘s memories didn’t work. In the flashback we saw God in Sunny‘s store in the form of the little boy, I’m guessing he was there to erase her memories as a gracious act as he himself explained it but she said that she didn’t want to have her memories erased not knowing that she was talking to God. So I guess God just decided to leave her memories intact as she wished.
