Kiara stood on the boardwalk, the straps of her orange slingshot bikini catching every ray. It clung to her like a second skin, bold, fiery, just like her.
He spotted her from afar, half-shielded by the glare, and quickened his pace. She didn’t turn until he was close enough to hear her laugh.
“Too bright for you?” she teased, tilting her head, fiery strands dancing in the breeze.
“Too bright to look anywhere else,” he said, surprising even himself.
For a second, she blinked, then smiled wider, but didn’t speak. They walked along the sun-warmed planks, shoulders almost touching, tension humming just beneath the skin.
She glanced sideways. “You’re staring.”
He didn’t deny it.
“Phoenixes like heat,” she murmured. “But warmth… feels different when someone shares it.”
The breeze paused. So did he.
And in that silence, something unspoken began.

それはまるで彼女の第二の肌のように彼女に密着し、情熱的で、炎のように彼女そのものだった。
彼は遠くから彼女を見つけた。太陽のまぶしさに目を細めながらも、歩みを速める。
彼女が振り返ったのは、彼の足音が聞こえるほど近づいた時だった。
「眩しすぎる？」と彼女は首をかしげてからかうように笑った。
その炎のような髪が風に揺れていた。
「他なんて見ていられないほど、ね」と彼は思わず答えた。
彼女は一瞬まばたきをして、それからさらに笑みを深めた。言葉はなかった。
二人は肩が触れそうな距離で、熱を帯びた木の板を静かに歩いた。
肌のすぐ下で、何かがふるえていた。
彼女が横目で見た。「見すぎじゃない？」
彼は否定しなかった。
「フェニックスは熱が好き。でも…誰かと分かち合うぬくもりは、ちょっと違うよね。」
風が止まり、彼も立ち止まった。
そしてその沈黙の中で、何かが静かに始まった。
