The university halls were silent, lit only by the faint blue glow of vending machines and the moonlight spilling through tall windows. Karin sat cross-legged on the floor of the empty club room, her jacket draped over her shoulders, her cheeks warm from the laughter they’d shared.

Her crush sat beside her, close, a little too close for how quiet it had suddenly become.

She reached for a bottle of tea, their fingers brushing. Her gaze met theirs.

A pause.
Longer than necessary.
Hearts racing under the stillness.

Without a word, Karin leaned in just a little, her voice barely above a whisper.

"It's funny how different this place feels at night..."

There was a spark in her eyes, playful, bold, undeniably aware. Her fingertips lingered on theirs, tracing circles in the silence.

Nothing happened.
But everything almost did.

大学の廊下は静まり返り、自動販売機のほのかな青い光と、高い窓から差し込む月明かりだけが灯っていた。カリンは誰もいない部室の床に胡坐をかいて座っていた。ジャケットを肩にかけ、頬は二人で笑い合ったせいで熱くなっていた。

カリンが思いを寄せる相手が隣に座っていた。急に静まり返った空間には、少し近すぎるくらいだった。

カリンは紅茶のボトルに手を伸ばし、二人の指が触れ合った。視線が合った。

沈黙。必要以上に長かった。静寂の中で、心臓が高鳴った。

カリンは何も言わずに、ほんの少し身を乗り出した。声はかろうじてささやく程度だった。

「夜になると、ここの雰囲気が全然違うのが不思議ね…」

カリンの目には、遊び心と大胆さ、そして紛れもなく意識が輝いていた。指先が相手の目に留まり、静寂の中で円を描いた。

何も起こらなかった。でも、すべてが起こりかけた。
