The rain tapped gently against the windows of Kobayashi's apartment, the city outside wrapped in fog and quiet. Inside, the lights were low, casting a soft amber glow over the living room.

Ilulu sat curled on the couch, wearing an oversized t-shirt that fell off one shoulder, her tail swaying lazily with the rhythm of the TV’s flicker. She’d long grown used to this world, its warmth, its simplicity. Its strange comfort.

He entered the room with a tired smile, holding two mugs of something warm. She scooted over without a word, and he sat beside her, close enough for their knees to brush. Silence hung between them, not awkward, but expectant.

As the show played on, her head found his shoulder.

Eventually, the mugs were forgotten, the screen dimmed, and the distance between them vanished altogether. The quiet of the apartment deepened, touched only by the soft rustle of fabric and the hum of something unspoken.

彼は疲れた笑みを浮かべて部屋に入ってきた。温かいマグカップを二つ持っていた。彼女は何も言わずにそっと近づき、彼は彼女の隣に座った。膝が触れ合うほどの距離だった。二人の間には沈黙が漂った。気まずいというより、期待に満ちた沈黙だった。
