Productivity on the go/Back to work.
Added 2024-01-24 12:28:46 +0000 UTCHello!
Following on from my last post on the 2nd of January, I took a trip to visit family in THE AMERICAS. This was my first time attempting a mobile work set-up so that I could stay productive on the go... but it's kind of remarkable how inefficient such a smaller Wacom tablet is without the express keys.

Upon returning to the UK on the 17th I came down with the crappiest flu I can remember getting (I should not have licked the plane toilet) but I'm back among the living now and on the grind.

It's great to see loved ones (some I'd not seen since Jan 2020!) but after a frustrating missed deadline in December I am so happy to finally be back to focusing on work. I promise there will be something SOON!
Thank you Patrons!

See, if you would have licked the toilet bowl instead of the toilet seat, not only wouldn't you have gotten sick, you would also have developed herd immunity against toiletteitis.

2024-01-25 10:22:06 +0000 UTCGlad you got some family time in at least! My recommendation for any travel: take 3 to 5 days to reset once you get home if possible. Your brain will probably be chowder.

2024-01-24 16:28:32 +0000 UTCYea i feel you. I was missing those as well at first but most of it is replaced by touch gestures on the iPad. I.e. to flip between drawings in lots of apps you slide your hand across the screen using three fingers (two-finger tap is usually the undo command). It feels weird at first but i got used to it pretty quickly and it came natural after a few days. Seating height is indeed a problem but there are things like the darkboard that are basically like big stands that hold an iPad so you can have it more at a Cintiq level. AND: you can connect any bluetooth keyboard with your iPad and still use keyboard shortcuts in the animation apps if you prefer :) However having said all that by now these things are probably as big of an investment as a new PC but yea... still love mine nonetheless haha.

2024-01-24 13:29:45 +0000 UTCThanks Joel, yeah I see a lot of good things about the ipad. For me a lot of it is stuff like express buttons, seating/desk height, lighting etc. Trying to recreate all of that on the go is difficult, but I'd rather work inefficiently than not at all :)

2024-01-24 13:20:34 +0000 UTCWelcome back and cool to see you working abroad! I can honestly vouch for an iPad Pro. Yes, they're pricy, but being able to animate wherever you go without having to carry 50 tons of equipment and monitors with you is really a blessing. An App like "Callipeg" can even spit out Harmony Files if you want i.e. do some rough animation on the go, export to Toon Boom with all layers intact and clean up there, etc. There's also ToonSquid which is pretty much Flash on the go with Symbols and all ;) Perhaps something to consider one day.
