Fortunately, body language often explains what a language I don't speak doesn't :) That said, and there's no obligation here, I have always extended an offer for Japanese writers to proofread translations for free, having in mind that their works can reach a wider audience. I know it's not always easy to switch from a language with very strict rules like the Japanese into English, which is very fluid.
