Just Rolled With It | Prime Defenders Season 2 Episode 26

THE COUNCIL DISCUSS SEASON 2 EPISODE 26 OF PRIME DEFENDERS

Comments

I watch at work, so I am audio only anyway

I personally love the video, it keeps me engaged, I love seeing all of the reactions, the visual bits and everything. I honestly kinda just skipped my way through BITB because I couldn’t focus on it, don’t get me wrong the art was super cool but I can only look at it and dissect it for so long (I did love BITB!). But if audio only is better for you guys then I’ll definitely keep listening, it’ll probably just take me awhile to listen to everything.

My vote is for audio only, the ideas for it sound sick. I do think any in-person stuff should be video though because it’s funny

In terms of video, I don’t care either way. I listen to this podcast while working. I relistened to all of riptide and all of the rolled’s in like 3-4 weeks or something. I don’t watch nothing, just the way you guys interact is enough ti keep me entertained, as long as your mental health and how you guys interact is a main focus, I don’t mind:)

Personally, I really love the video! I feel like seeing the visual bits is something charming that JRWI has over other actual play shows and I enjoy seeing your reactions (I feel like it really immerses me in the characters to see the body language and such). At the same time, I think it depends on the tone of the campaign; I think audio-only is VERY compelling for something more serious/spooky like BITB where audio and "theatre of the mind" is necessary to be fully immersed, but I think I would miss video in settings like PD or Riptide. At the end of the day, you guys will of course do what you are most comfortable with (and I think all the ideas about art and such sound awesome) but having video & audio options as we do now would be my vote.

lauren

i would looovvee audio only

Percy

I'd really prefer video! While I also often get deep in the mental visual of it, I need to have faces or something constantly moving to keep me paying attention. It's so, so difficult without it.

Celeste The King

I prefer audio only. I enjoy making the world in my head and visualizing the characters myself.

Honeywisk

I like having the video as I often zone out when I just listen to things so the videos help me a lot, but if it's done like the other once it might be okay. I prefer with webcam

Keybox

i'd really prefer to keep up with having the video, you guys are really great with visual humor

Note: I accidentally wrote an essay. My b ;] Personally, I strongly prefer having video and seeing your guys' reactions! It helps me pay attention, be immersed & allows me to see the funny silly visual bits you guys do! It especially lets me see character reactions and their expressions. Of course, if you had certain episodes you'd prefer to be audio-only (important/serious story segments/etc.), having it in some comic book style would be very interesting. It's ultimately up to you guys :] Just saying that removing facecams entirely for me would make me feel less immersed in the story. (I agree with mega halo’s comment.) However, I do agree with Charlie that no facecams for BITB felt appropriate (even if I couldn't see your guys' reactions to the monsters) solely because the tone was incredibly serious, even if there were occasional bits. When there's scenes that rely a ton on the atmosphere and pure imagination, then maybe facecams would take away from that, but Prime Defenders isn't BITB; Prime Defenders has serious moments and might have dark themes but it's still focusing on some funny superhero guys. (I agree with what "Magz yup" commented abt this!) I’m not entirely sure how to put this feeling into words, so here’s my best shot (Also tons of other comments put this into words better, but here's my two cents (more like multiple dollars)): The entire PD story (to an extent) is dependent on the actions of the characters and how they react, which I believe, is the importance of the facecams to me. The viewer focuses a lot more on the conversations and character interactions, which expressions play into a lot (on top of the visual bit stuff I mentioned earlier). There are moral conflicts, debates between characters, etc. where I am very invested. Plus, some characters speak with their hands. Like in the recent episode, when Vyn throws his hands up while arguing with the others about trust. In BITB, less focus was placed on the characters, and built up an intense environment. Personally, I paid less attention to character interactions and conversations because I was wrapped up in this mystery about all the fleshy bug guys and if the characters could solve it. On top of that, there was less talking and more doing. Facecams might not add too much if all the characters are in a chase and just doing stuff without talking. It makes sense, why have facecams to tell expressions if the characters don’t have time to express. The emotional discussions and reactions to shocking monsters/events in BITB are the only times I felt like I was missing anything. The mood was often tense, and narration strongly focused on painting a picture. It’s like how talking with someone feels different whether their camera is on or off. Sometimes you vibe with not seeing the other person’s face, but sometimes not seeing the other person feels like you miss actually seeing them laugh or speak. Like, it’d be weird to have a serious conversation with someone if you can’t see their face. I hope this doesn’t sound entirely insane. My brain has been infested by sewer ravioli and the rats gnaw ceaselessly at my spaghettified form. Perhaps I have already lost coherent thought. And like I said, it’s ultimately the boys’ decision.

Vampievity

I will say my favorite experiences when watching the podcast is watching a very funny or dramatic section and seeing all your faces, because when you guys act the characters, especially grizzly and bizly, y’all act physically as well. And the movements and facial expressions and the occasionally tears really makes a scene. I think I would miss that if it was gone. But the idea of having a lot more art and the comic book style sounds so fucjing sick, and j wonder if now that it’s one episode a week if both will be possible, because the idea of the art and more audio experiences sounds so fucking sick. Sex

mega halo

I think back to the visual bits of like the dimension hopping episode

EnochTheJoke

As someone who’s been playing dnd over call for forever now, I personally mourn the ability to see other people’s reactions when we play. I understand the draw to audio but I think it’s more immersive to see other’s faces and that is my take
