His reactions were genuine and human. Denial is a huge part of being humane. Even if the players knew not to trust Becky Kian still trusted Becky. He wanted to believe that 'Becky' was really Becky.

He's this unique individual in a small town, and the point about him not having anyone to riff off of was actually really cool to me, because that's how life can be. He felt relatable in that way.

Sure he was the dumbass that died but that’s such a trope, and the willingness to play a character to their core and kiss the girl when she clearly a bug monster is not at all a disservice. I get the frustration with “losing” but I think y’all killed it, and the storytelling was INSANE. Good stuff.

Also I've heard Grizzly say a few times he plays hot characters because he isn't but bro that is so not true. Anyways, I wanted to say that, although I'm not a fan of horror this was pretty good and the amount of twists that had me speechless was awesome and I can't wait to see more from these lovely people <3

And honestly, having the person who lived like he couldn't die go down first really was thematically appropriate. I don't think Kian being resurrected worked as well for me, but that may be personal preference. But honestly I think he was an awesome note in the campaign.

I know all of them felt that Kian didn't really work in this environment but personally???? I COMPLETELY disgree, Kian was the absolute LIFE of this campaign and I thought he actually flourished in the environment of it and he made for so many of the entertaining moments. In fact his character was the entire reason I decided to buy patreon to listen to the rest of it. Like of course Rand and Rolan were great characters too but Kian was the entire reason I decided to dive deeper into this campaign. Kian's story and general character were INCREDIBLE in my opinion and I absobutely adored any scene involving him. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one when I say that Kian was probably the fan favorite. Not sure you'll ever see this Grizz, but I just wanted to say I really enjoyed your part in this campaign and it was a pretty big bummer to hear you didn't enjoy it. I hope there's some other oppurtunity for you to enjoy call of cthulhu in a different environment because I loved the way you decided to play and know CoC CAN be a blast if it's gone about right. And overall, I just enjoyed the entire campaign. On top of singing my praises to Grizzly/Kian; I just wanted to say I absolutely adored this entire campaign and was really sad to hear it was only a mini-campaign with 4 episodes. If there was ever another thing even sorta similar to this I would totally buy patreon again just to listen to it. It was EXTREMELY well made and written and I just have to say that Charlie is an EXCELLENT gamemaster.

2023-02-19 20:22:21 +0000 UTCits completely understandable why griz didn’t enjoy the campaign very much due to how stressful coc can be, especially compared to other ttrpgs, but i feel like he portrayed kian perfectly and was one of my favorite parts of the campaign. Ofc it sucks to have your character die, but it felt natural to the story that Kian died, he was great comic relief, and as far as horror movie tropes go, the comic relief always dies in Act 3 when the shit hits the fan. (Also people always die when they hook up in horror movies I mean that’s just how it goes.) As a listener, it was such an impactful “oh shit” moment that suddenly made the stakes feel so much higher. I loved Kian and what he added to the story, Griz you should be so proud of how you played!!

It didn’t help I was driving in the dark listening to this mostly. 👏 Charlie literally never fails to freak me out so bad I have to contemplate my life choices and call my my loved ones to make sure they are okay. The rp was great. The place was terrifying, you know it’s great when I have to struggle through it. The music! I had to stop and completely pay attention to the music! 👏 Y’all too talented!

In Episode 1, Rand and Rolan have a fight about Rolan taking them to the place where "he saw shit", aka the bodies floating in the water, and Rolan says "Yeah, I know I saw shit here. Right after what happened with your sister." Later, it's confirmed that Rolan was replaced when he found the bodies.

I dont normally like horror but a character like Kian made it bareable. It was the positive to balance out the bleak mindset of the other characters and I was really sad both times he was gone. The song grizzly made for his scene with becky was phenomenal and charlie did a really great job with this whole campaign.

So it made me stress that he was one of them and Rolan being one? Jaw on the floor. I adored every second of this campaign, every character was phenomenal. I simply adore the coc mechanics it seems so simple and fun, who knew d100s could be so interesting? I think i'd love to see zombie apocalypse type shit, even if grizzly didn't join in cause it was more horror than anything i think condi and bizly could bounce off eachother really well. Though i'd feel bad for griz and it'd feel like the final piece was missing. But thats just my thought (and im a sucker for zombie media.) I normally hate HATE horror cause suspense drives me nuts but this was top tier (and I also kinda want to get into horror whack ik) i'd love to see more horror type stuff in the future. also.. bounty hunters??

While he was this sort of "larger than life" character, I saw him as the type of person to try his best to avoid seeing the bad stuff and live in his own fantasy, which I think worked really well with Rand and Rolan, and I think you portrayed that perfectly. That type of character is always so so interesting to see in the horror genre. I think lots of us will agree that Kian certainly did not feel out of place, and that you did a great job! I think Kian's end, as sad as it was, worked well as well. (I also get bulled by my friends for always making hot characters so I'm with you there too man) This campaign in general was absolutely fantastic, and so well acted and played on all fronts. It was very immersive, and I found myself so invested in the town and people of Galloway. I'm so sad to say goodbye to these characters! Thank you all for making this, I loved every second.

I was freaking out waiting for Rand to turn into a bug and then Rolan did! (Crazy twist with Rolan btw, did NOT put that together AT ALL) Also, I’m with Grizzly on this one. 2022-11-01 18:27:56 +0000 UTCThere is honestly so much I could say about this little 4 part campaign, my mind is absolutely buzzing with all the scares and feels, but for lack of being able to focus my thoughts into a coherent comment, I will say this: Kian is honestly a brilliant character, and though I know Grizz seemed to be displeased with the way he played Kian… I do think that Kian’s death (pre resurrection) was one of the most tragic parts of this campaign, especially because it really was in character for Kian to end up in that situation. Kian is a man who seemed really caught up in the past, caught up in what could have been, caught up in what he wishes his life was, and that is ultimately what did him in: his inability to let go. And from a story telling perspective, especially a HORROR story perspective, that is absolutely BRILLIANT. It’s so sad and tragic and really stuck with me throughout the week leading up to episode 4. There is honestly so much more I could say about this campaign, especially about the ending and how I think that it is a heart wrenchingly sad ending on a personal level no matter what “you’ve changed” actually means, but Kian’s (first) death is something I’ve been wanting to talk about for some time, so here we are :’]

2022-11-01 01:03:19 +0000 UTCSo I have a few things. One, of course, you all did absolutely fantastic, the boys played well and Charlie unsurprisingly DM'd amazingly. My second thing is that I genuinely think Rand did go insane at the end, but not in the sense that everything was a losing scenario. I think he did live, went insane, but Galloway was fixed as well, he'll just never get to see it as he once was ever again. But then one more thing Charlie, if you read this, you said the creatures were otherworldly, whether they were aliens or from another dimension. Could these potentially be yet another example of a Convergence tie in like the boys have been doing recently with their characters? I only say because I remember the final arc we got to see of Convergence with Wilbur, a lot of the monsters there, if memory serves, were insectoids mixed with human parts. Just a similarity I thought I had picked up on that I thought was interesting.

2022-11-01 00:31:29 +0000 UTCMy favorite idea for the ending: They successfully kill the boss and neither Kian nor Rand die or go insane, but Rolan sacrifices himself to kill the Queen/crumples over and dies once the Queen is destroyed. As a result, Kian and Rand go back to the lake and sing the resurrection song to bring back Rolan, who retains all his memories (even his memories when he wasn’t … Him) but is now 14 years old. They all move to California and Rand learns how to hack databases and forge new documents for Rolan & subsequently finds a stable job as like a computer engineer or something, Kian hits his stride and makes a hit, becoming rich & famous, and Rolan graduates college (for the second time) at 15 years old and becomes the youngest lawyer in American history. they all live happily ever after.

It's unfortunate it seems like Grizzly didn't have such a great time with it though, but it's awesome of him to step out of his comfort zone to participate in this mini-campaign. Props to all of you for being so entertaining not just in this campaign, but in all of the ones run on JRWI!

I always wanted to try an experimental 2 person campaign (1 player and the GM) that would essentially adapt a story inspired by Amnesia: a Machine for pigs to a TTRPG. I always thought it would be fucking sick because I thought that game had one of the best stories I’ve heard but it had a boring gameplay loop. I felt the TTRPG aspect and the player agency would fix that, however I couldn’t figure out how I could adapt that to a larger-than-life system like D&D. Needless to say, Blood in the Bayou revitalized my interest in this experimental campaign and it introduced me to the perfect system to work with. Thank you to all the boys for creating another wonderful series!

Even though I sacrificed a good night's rest before school, it was worth it to be terrified by the shadows outside my window! Most of the descriptions and music had my toes curling in fright and every character was played to total perfection. Congrats to Rand for being the final girl!!!!! What were your inspirations for this story? Why choose Louisiana as a setting? How satisfied do you feel with audience reactions? Was Rachel at the end just a hallucination? Are there parts of this world and story you would have liked to explore more? How do you sleep at night? Could Rand go and find Rolan's original body and revivify him? How did the town recover, did all the sinew just dissapate when The Queen died? Did all the drones go back to normal people or did all the posessed people die?

2022-10-31 17:25:59 +0000 UTCmy head cannon is that when Rand went bonkers and saw The Queen as an Elder Brain, he also saw Rolan and Kian as their characters. Kian's bard would be on the ground making death saves after casting a lightning bolt spell from his lute, but the Elder Brain was using a psychic barrier to hold it back in the air like Harry Potter and Voldemort. And as Rolan passed him and wished Rand luck, Rand saw Rolan's fighter charge in and slash the barrier to allow the lighting spell to go through and finish the job.

Like how bizly thought that the star wars/star trek thing was just an accident, not a deliberate clue. I wish there were ways around that kind of stuff that didn't involve giving way too big of a hint lol, but it's also dangerous because then if something IS an accident it can get taken totally out of context... I dunno. It's clear how much thought and effort charlie put into this though, and I think it came out fantastic lol.

Their webbing was from spiders, the structure of galloway once it had been turned into a nest and their alcohol weakness was based off ants, the hive clusters on bees, and there's probably more I'm forgetting haha - If the crew figure out the bug thing they could've feasibly used weaknesses or traits of any or all of these species to their advantage.
