2022-04-03 23:17:54 +0000 UTCOkay but the more "dnd like" episodes aren't just for fun, they have a narrative purpose. They show sides of the characters we're less familiar with, are FUNNY and provide some audience relief after tense moments, and (most importantly in my opinion) they are bonding moments for the group. Like I actually think Riptide doesn’t have ENOUGH times where the crew just hang out and do shenanigans or be stupid together. Especially in early Riptide, the crew just didn’t feel like they were comfortable together. There was all this tension, like if the wrong thing happened they’d snap apart. This is why PD is my favorite because there’s never that feeling; you always know that no matter what happens, they’ll stick together. And this is a direct result of the lighter tone and more opportunity to do bits. But… it’s also a direct result of the characters having more similar morals than in Riptide. (Side note but I really wanna see a moral clash come to a head with Vynent killing people in PD). So it’s not like the difference stems from One Singular Thing. Anyway Apotheosis has been super combat focused so it hasn’t had enough of either the tense I’m Talking About My Feelings scenes or the funny, low stakes cracked dnd shit to make the audience feel like the party is somewhat comfortable with each other. But like… we’re only halfway there. Of course they’re not as bonded. I look forward to seeing what happens next! Also none of the things I’ve said are Objectively Bad they’re just really interesting from the perspective of Writer Person
