I am a first time DM and a first time DnD enjoyer and I have read maybe 1 page of the rule book and a sentence from the DM's guide.

i relate so much to charlie making his characters have so many issues and tables for the dm to roll on and mess him up. gil just constantly not being able to live up to the insane expectations of being the chosen one is so fascinating to me along with william wisp with the whole falling through the floor and being terrified of his wisp form. i also have a love of traumatizing my characters and killing them off and it’s nice to see that kind of insight coming from someone else. i genuinely love this series and watched all the episodes available before coming back and listening to the rolled episodes. for me, it’s really put a lot of things into perspective and let me know that a lot less is planned than i originally thought. grizz as a dm is so great at making things sound so meticulously planned to the detail and it’s absolutely insane the amount of epic worldbuilding and character he puts into riptide. i love this show so so much

The thought of Gileon casting fog cloud on the enemies gives me chills. If anyone has watched "I cast darkness on the dragon" they'd know why it's a bad idea 😂😂

Just wanna say that I love how when the cast says my name it’s different almost every time, I genuinely find it funny and laugh every time

They said Communist Captains but if you think about it, it’s more of an oligarchy.

I think Jay knows about Drey, I remember her mentioning him briefly in one of the earlier eps. and Chip mentioned to Gill that there was a fish dude on the ship, but I don't think he remembered his name

Oh man oh man oh man, you guys! I absolutely loved every bit of this episode, and this was one of those episodes that gave me that big goofy smile all the way. That was when I realised it's the big goofy smile that I only really get from full budget production TV shows and Critical Role. This campaign has been a wild ride, and I'm super excited to see where it goes from here. I don't know what you're doing, but whatever it is you're doing it right. To the riptide pirates!

I love it when Jay makes big choices, I'm glad we got more of that and I hope we get even more :D I also like how she contrasts with Gillion and Chip individually, a lot of the time in stories I read there's a pair that contrasts and then a third character who's there just to mediate between the two, but Jay very much has her own thoughts and ideology (specifically in this episode how she and gillion look at their upbringings so differently) and I hope we see more of how she differs from the two of them (since it's almost always just chip and gillion arguing). I have so many more thoughts but I'll leave it at 10/10 great episode, I'll probably rewatch it sometime later and shed a single happy tear.

Do jay and gil know that chip sailed with drey and finn alongside arlin? There hasn't been any indication that they do know. Has Chip put it together? He must have, right? You don't sail with two ferins from the navy and not think that they are family. I feel like there are so many implications in the fact that they might not know about who chip sailed with. It's been so long that at this point it's basically a secret. I mean if Chip really wants to find Arlin and he knows the other two lost family on the same night, why not tell them to motive them to help the search? Gil and Jay don't seem to even know that's what happened to the others. It's not like they are motivated to find them. (sidenote: Has lizzie realized and put it together? She seems really smart, I'm sure she must have.) All that aside, if the two know or don't, that doesn't change the fact that the trio is chip reliving his childhood. It might not have been this intentional choice to construct a crew just like his old one but it has happened. He saw a pin, much like one he remembers from his youth, and invited the girl with it aboard. The name must have rung bells. And he saw a blue-skinned man and did the same. He was an echo of what he remembered from his youth. An echo of one of his last really good memories. Maybe he even thought it was that old triton; just for a fleeting moment as he helped pulled the stranger aboard. Maybe he was hopeful in a way that he hadn't been. And then he found a kid, much like himself, and welcomed him in. He could be the Arlin now. It is almost heartbreaking, and I don't know if it's worse if he knows that's what he's doing or not.

I hope you know this is the episode all the fans are going to go back to. I hope you know that a year from now someone is gonna click on episode 47, fast forward to 1:51:14, maybe go back a bit because they went too far, and cry. I hope you know what your silly little dnd characters mean to people. They mean a lot. A whole lot.

Another thing. Gillion saying, “This is the first time I really lived”. He’s admitting that he, Hero of the Deep, has lows. That he could have ever not lived.

Ponderhin

Dude I'm so proud of both Jay and Condi for being more aggressive in roleplay! That's. the shit. I wanna. see. Please it would just be so good I need more Jay in my life.

Stealth can be helped by- 1. As mentioned Pass Without a Trace 2. Things like Guidance if you have it 3. Later in the campaign if you come across Mithral armour 4. As Grizz mentioned group stealth can be on majority pass or fail 5. Home brew different ways to stealth like using performance to blend into a crowd… I’m sure there are other ways but those are what I can think of off the top of my head as a paladin myself in my game (but I’m dex based sooo *shrug*)

jessyfish

i heard "villion" and my brain short circuited

42bugs

Only thing I can think of to help Gillion pass stealth checks is if someone else can take a help action to negate the disadvantage. It still probably ain't going to go well most of the time with Gillion's stealth modifier though

Scrap Luck

"Episode 1 Gillion is not the same as episode 47 Gillion" Yeah about 8 inches in height
