Orphan Black Season 3 Episode 6

Comments

I haven't commented in a while (just work and more work), but hopefully this post makes up for it. And congratulations again on the play. I know it must have been amazing. Also, I did wish Sestra Shamonda Happy Birthday via American Mum's community post on youtube (I didn't realize you guys have met each other before πŸ€—), so Happy Birthday again Name Check: Mama Castor - Dr. Virginia Coady. Scarface Castor - Rudy. Cosima's New Boo - Shay. Allison's Drug Dealer Ex- Jason Kellerman. I'm sure there are other characters I shpuld be naming that my brain is just no computing at the moment lol... So I'll start with Cosima "The best way to get over someone is to get under someone else" Neihaus lol. Cosima do be moving quickly lol. Give her a pretty blonde with some good vibes and drinks, and she's ready lol. I do have a theory on Cosima that I'm gonna still wait on though... So, Cosima's seeing someone new named Shay. She seems to have a bohemian, holistic healer vibe, which would seem to be a vibe Cosima would be into, especially since Cosima's near death experience. Cosima's health had improved and she's not trying to be sad and betrayed by the Delphine breakup with her ex being "the new Rachel". Kinda hard to stay professional when your ex is now your boss lol. And with the power her new boss has, Cosima in the end did seem to want to try and slow down with Shay after her encounter with Delphine (who's probably fiven her enough heartbreak for a lifetime) probably messing with her head. The problem is Delphine's showing up and finding the protien in both the Castor clone brain and Gracie helped them find out the connecting link of what seemed to be happening, Cosima really DOES have to work with her. Cosima is still technically sick and still no cure in sight. And whether or not Delphine is in the big chair, she's still a scientist. Now with the protien sterilizing disease, Cosima's got her hands full. Unfortunately, they might be getting fuller by having a case of the ex, but a different type of case the way Delphine was looking at that video and picture πŸ‘€. And the video and picture of Cosima & Shay that Delphine was from the blind they had when they met. That means Delphine either sent someone to monitor Cosima from a distance since she's no longer her monitor now, and caught wind of the date by accident, or she found out about the date ahead of time and sent someone to spy on the date for her πŸ‘€ . Either way, Delphine had has someone watching Cosima for her 😬... Fun Fact: Shay is played by Ksenia Solo, who starred on a popular Canadian, supernatural series, "Lost Girl", in 2010-2015, so it's final season finished airing later in the same year this season came out. Ksenia & Tatiana previously worked together when Tatiana guest appeared in a series Ksenia starred in called "Renengadepress.com" back in 2004 for a few episodes. I love the way Cosima took care of Gracie. One of Cosima's best qualities is that although a bit naive, she does connect well with people, and after all of the trauma that Gracie has gone through in this season alone let alone season 2 and her life in general, Gracie really needed that comfort and support. I love the way they all seemed to have truly embraced and taken care of Gracie. She'd been through a lot at such a young age. We didn't get a lot of Kira and Mrs. S this episode, but it was nice to see them. Mrs. S looked like she was doing better than the last we'd seen her before last episode. Having Gracie dropped in her dooratep after losing whatever relationship she had left and Kira being shipped away, allowed her to jump into mama mode and give her purpose again. And it was a great scene with the her, Felix, & Gracie last episode as they tried to give her some worldly, fun, young freedom Gracie desired with some punk rock and drinks, while keeping her monitored for safety. I love how they've both taken her in and seem to genuinely care for her, even in this episode. And it was nice to see Kira chatting with her grandmum and uncle. It was sad to hear Kira ask, "Is my mommy mad at me?", because she hasn't seen Sarah in the video calls, but there's no way they can tell that baby that her mama's been captured and missing for the past 5 days... So, as we checked in with Rachel episodes prior. She's recovering from losing an eye and brain damage. At first, you see her struggling with her speech and naming the flashcard. Rachel wanted to go outside, Dr. Nealon informed her that she can't. Topside believes that Rachel Duncan got taken out one plane. Delphine got her lick back by "killing" Rachel off because Rachel had threatened to put Delphine on a plane if she leave Cosima and go to Frankfurt, in reference to the way Leekie's death was officially reported. I guess Topside isn't worried about someone noticing a pattern of D.Y.A.D. personnel dying on planes lol. So Delphine basically took Rachel's job and her "life". Talk about how the mighty have fallen. But once Rachel found out Delphine killed her off and that THE Rachel Duncan is finished, suddenly that speech started getting stronger πŸ‘€... Felix "officially" meets Rachel for the first time and it's under VERY different circumstances than the last time where she jammed Felix in the neck with a needle to drug him and kidnap his neice right from under him. No one in Clone Club is aware of Rachel's current predicament though. She's trapped inside D.Y.A.D. for her safety from Topside for still being alive. The very people she was raised to serve through their power through her away just like that. But one thing they DO know that Rachel has A LOT of information, even if it's not the information they sought from her. That scene between Felix and Rachel is always hard to watch for me because although Rachel's been awful, an absolute menace last season, she's also currently defenseless and brain damaged. The look on her face when Felix put the mirror and she saw herself with the painted on eye on her patch 😩. But I COMPLETELTY understand Felix's actions towards her. After everything that woman had put them all through, that karma has come back and it's come back hard. From framing Felix for murder to drugging him, that's not including everything she'd done to everyone else, she had every bit of it coming. Felix tormenting and humiliating her for information, you could feel the rage building up inside until he snapped, demanding to know where Sarah is. He's angry, scared, and so desperate to find his big sister. And you see how much he loves Sarah. His niece is all the way in Iceland, his mum was recently beaten to hell and he had nursed back to health, and now his sister is missing, taken by psycho Castors. His family is broken and separated right now, and has to hold down the fort and make his moves to find out what he wants to know to find a way to get her back. Him screaming, "Tell me where my aister is! Where did they take her?!" breaks my heart. I have 3 sisters and I'd fight tooth and nail for them as they're my world (even if they get on my nerves lol) so I understand every bit of that moment 😞... And then Rachel, crying, desperately begging Felix, of all people, to help her get out of D.Y.A.D. She'd been trapped in that room since her recovery and not allowed to leave at all. He realized that wasn't the big boss Rachel they had been dealing with beforeand he catches himself, ssemingly almost feeling sympathy for her. Rachel basical went from "The Prodical Daughter" being to now being useless in Topside & D.Y A D.'s eyes. We're so used to seeing Felix with these great dynamics between the different Ledas. We saw him loving dancing the night away with Sarah and his 3 other "sisters". And then we see Felix with Rachel, a woman with the same face, but the dynamic is completely different from the rest. Tatiana and Jordan play off each other so well and that scene highlighted great acting from both of them. The scene of Rachel crying as she painted picture with as she looked at the childhood photo of herself and her father actually breaks my heart. Also, Tatiana's amazing because even then clone seem to cry differently too. Rachel lost everyone that remotely mattered to her: Daniel, Leekie, and lastly, her father, Ethan. Many truths from Leekie, her father figure and mentor, having her parents killed, her father returning, finding out her father mad the Leda clones barren on purpose, etc. She had already lost her father as a child as he was purposely taken from her, but now she's lost him for a second time, except this time it was because of herself. She broke when he died in her arms and it was indirectly because of her own doing. She went from having the power in her hands to now only having value based on whatever information people try to get out of her. And now, she might be holding the most valuable information of all: The Key to the information inside book her father gave Kira. And we move onto our favorite, chaotic suburban couple: Allison & Donnie. What was wild in the previous episodes where the hypocrisy of these suburban moms judging Alison for her alcoholism & addictions, when they're addicts their damn selves smh. Y'all literally have the same damn dealer lol. Allision and Donnie brought Ramon's drug business and clientele, only to find out he went into hiding to get out. And who' the man they have to see about their business dealings and pay off? Allison's high school sweetheart, Jason, that she dumped long ago. They were giggling and reminiscing last episode. And Jason was being messy bringing that stock room at Bubbles in frony of Donnie like that lol. Allison is out here making business moves and everything to get down with the drug business. They got the clientele, the got the supplier, and now that they've paid their debt, they got money their going right. Now, Allision's trying to get ownership of her mother's soap store, Bubbles, that Donnie was trying to get her to work at when he quit his job, as a front so they can launder their money and drug. Donnie's doofy self brought a new Subaru (of course his suburban self brought a Subaru to flex in πŸ˜„) with their drug money, paid 10k in cash, and sped in on a drug business meeting completely oblivious that he was about to get dropped smh lol. He's become so loveable despite it though, now that their relationship has gone from chaotic mistrust and secrecy to chaotic love bonding lol. I was waiting for you to see Donnie & Allision doing their money, glitter dancing this episode. I almost forgot it was this episode lol. Legitimately one of the funniest scenes in the series imo. TheThey really are the much needed comic relief needed for the series in the kidst of all of the horros and chaos. And they love having Donnie in his underwear, don't they? Over here twerking his dad cakes all over the bed in his briefs lol. I love how Allison's bra and underwear didn't match because that's very realistic. And poor Gemma. First she get earwax on her karate uniform from her brother. Then she walked in on her parents' bedroom foolery. That' why parents gotta remember to lock their doors lol. You know she's gonna tell her brother about the foolery she saw because that's what siblings do lol. Fun Fact: The money dancing scene with Allison & Donnie was thrown in because while Tatiana and Kristian Bruun (Donnie) were filming the soccer game in episode 3x2, they were goofing around dancing, singing, and rapping between takes, so the creators made this scene for them this episode and as usual, just let the two of them just improvise lol. You can tell they had a blast doing it and just went for it πŸ˜‚. Even though you can tell the cast work hard and take their roles serious, I love that they creators just be letting have fun and even pulling their inspirations from them. Another Fun Fact: Also, the song used in the song used was by "Dolce & Gabbana" by RiFF RAFF aka Jody High Roller, who was a contestant from VH1's "I Love New York". The song is honestly ridiculous and comically stupid, but I also hate how lowkey catchy the chorus is, mispronounciation of "Dolce & Gabbana" and all πŸ€¦πŸΎβ€β™€οΈ It somehow fit suburban Allison & Donnie their drug dealing shennanigans perfectly πŸ˜†. Last episode, we left off with Helena using Sarah to help her escape, only to leave her behind. From her perspective, I can't blame her. She's truly loves Sarah & Kira, and ever since season 1, from Tomas, to Gracie and the rest of the Proletheans, to now Coady, people have been trying to push into Helena's head that Sarah doesn't really love her. And every time, she feels like it gets proven each time she gets left behind somehow. What Helena doesn't know is what Sarah has gone through all season to rescue and get Helena back. Helena has suffered constant betrayal and the bond she felt with Sarah was something for her to hold onto. Then you have Pupok, her conscience and security blanket for survival, is in her head trying to make her doubt Sarah to force her to survive and it works. Helena genuine believes Sarah set her up to be taken, no matter how much Sarah said she had nothing to do with itand that she came to save her. When the time came, Sarah (the whole scene of Sarah & Helena working together from their cells to try and escape was great and really show just how intelligent and resourceful Helena really is, that she used saved all of her and Sarah's butter to help slip out). When Helena left Sarah behind, it felt like a gutpunch. All of that work Sarah did to save Helena, Helena left her behind. Helena got her final payback on Sarah. When we catch up to Helena in this episode, she's falling in the desert struggling. We see it here in this episode again. She ends finding her own strength via eating Pupok(she's such a foodie than she even eats her hallucinations lol) and the episode ends with her returning back to the base and rescue her sestra. She came in through the light that Kira guided her through in her dreams. Sarah: "You came back." Helena: "Come on, sestra. People miss us." Such a reunion moment and Helena saves Sarah once again. The twin bond may have its straining moments, but it's still there. The scene was shot azamingly well. The way you can directly see Helena's leg pushing Sarah's side. They really get better and better with their multi-clone scenes.. Fun Fact: I've mentioned before that Tatiana voiced Pupok the Scorpion. The idea was initally a fun idea of having a scorpion as kinda like Helena's spirit animal that the idea ended up being a coping mechanism for Helena. And you know there weird purring and clicking sounds that whenever Pupok would appear? Instead of using sound design and sound effects, Tatiana created the noises as well. They said the sounds are like a mix between a cat & a velociraptor, which Tatiana drew inspiration from Jurrasic Park and apparently her beatboxing days in her teens lol. The actually did audition different scorpions and a professional wrangler for the scorpion' acting role. And they said it was a pretty good actor lol. Also, Ibelieve the scorpion Helena ate was actually a licorice model and maybe a mix of CGI. So, Paul was basically a secret, super undercover, quadruple agent the whole time in the story. So, remember Tony, and his crime partner/friend/monitor Sammy? He sent Tony with a message that both he and Paul were "ghosts". Paul and Sammy had their own units and both had Castors on them. Both infiltrated D.Y.A.D. in order simply trying to see if D.Y.A.D. had a cure for the clone disease to save 6 ill Castors (like Cosima trying to find a cure for the for the Ledas). Paul got in under the guise of making D.Y.A.D. believe they were using him through blackmail. So, Paul & Sammy set up and got placed as monitors. Paul became Beth's monitor. Sammy became Tony's monitor. When we met Tony and Sammy, they're were coming off a heist job gone wrong. Tony said the guys that were after them weren't cops or FBI, but "suits". It was Like, most monitors, Sammy got emotionally attached to Tony and sent him to "Beth" to protect him (We also find out in this episode that Mark, who was undercover infiltrate the Proletheans to find the original Castor genome, was part of Sammy's unit). By this point last season, Paul already "disappeared", had already went back to Coady, got promoted for his work, and that was why Rachel couldn't reach him those last few episodes of season 2. Earlier this season, Cosima asked Sarah to go to Mrs. S so she could contact Paul to find out where they were keeping Helena, and Sarah didn't, but she went anyways Mrs. S told Sarah that she already tried to contact Paul but couldn't get in contact with anymore because after the deal went through and the military got what they wanted (Helena), Paul basically cut off their partnership without Siobhan knowing, and she could no longer reach him (she tells Sarah this when Cosima sent Sarah see Siobhan if they could find any information to find Helena via Paul). Remember back in season 1, before Paul knew that Sarah wasn't Beth, he packed a bag and told "Beth" he was going to stay at "Cody's". He played "Cody" off to "Beth" that it was a friend, but really it was his boss, Dr. Virginia Coady. While Paul was undercover, Rudy came on base with a sick girl he had relations with, and they and suddenly the mission for the cure changed. It went from trying to cure the Castor's illness in order to weaponize it. They wanted a Leda clone, most likely a to test and what tbey did to Sarah. When Paul made the deal for Helena, he was unaware of the changes and thought they were going to use her to find a cure. He had made the deal to save Sarah. Marion had a Castor, Rudy (who got captured by D.Y.A.D. for trying to snatch up a Leda clone that he was doing his sexually transmitted missions, even creepier since they didn't know that they were biologically siblings 😬) captive in her mansion. Marion, through Cal, asked Siobhan about Project Castor and that's when she contacted Paul to set up a deal to get Sarah and Kira released from DYAD. In order to keep Sarah and safe, Paul & Mrs. S gave the military Helena instead. What Coady ended up doing to Sarah was what they had intended on doing to Helena, the only other known fertile Leda clone, but she turned out to be pregnant and they weren't going to risk a biological goldmine such as that, especially knowing that the disease. They were going to keep her there until she gave birth and most likely doing their experiement on Helena afterwards. Sarah happened to fall in their laps and they were able to proceed with it anyways. Paul, realizing that something wasn't right reported Coady and the Castors, only to not realize he was reporting to someone that was already in cahoots and supported Coady's dealings and horrific, unsanctioned activities. When he came back, he recruited Mark, who also was unaware what was happening, to help him found out what exactly had been going on. The Castor's illness could be sexually transmitted and they were purposely sterilizing unsuspecting women through sex in order to study it order to weaponize it. Mark's realization that Gracie, his new wife he hadn't seen since she left after finding out that he's a clone, was sick and he was the one that gave her the illness. He probably realized that the baby they planned to raise together was also gone knowing that the diseasr made the women sterile, and no one even told him what was going on, even after he'd gotten back. Coady's despicable "ethics" are down there with the damn disgusting Proletheans... ABSOLUTE MADNESS. I will say this. Orphan Black is a show that's great for rewatches because it gives the show new perspective band that'll have you pick up on things you most likely wouldn't have caught the first or even second time around. And it helps that the show is so easily binge-worthy that even on rewatches, it' so easy and still great to get through... So we lost Paul. He took out Dr. Coady's research via blowing it and himself up, including the deceased baby, Castor clone that Henrik cloned Sarah & Mark found. Even in the end, he just asked for Coady to cure the Castors. That's all he wanted to do. He tells her to cure them and drop everything else she's trying to do. From the first watch and every rewatch since, I've always had mixed feelings about his character. He was the biggest walking question mark in the show because you never his true motives. At least with Siobhan, at this point, you know she loves her children. In fact, that conversation they had the first time in his car over tea & biscuits, Siohban said to him, "A man with two masters only answers to himself", to which Paul responded, "Who does Siobhan Sadler answer to?". Mrs. S simply told him, "I'm a mum aren't I?" So, she's made it clear that her loyalty was to protecting her family, even if her methods of doing so aren't exactly agreeable. Paul was an even bigger mystery that was much frustrating to figure out. You never knew what his real agenda was and it was simply secret after secret. In the end, we find out that he did have good intentions by trying to cure the his fellow Castor soldiers, but he sunk deep in the rabbit hole with the chaos of it all. How he went about the whole thing is very questionable at best. But I will say this. The one thing that had been consistent with him was trying to protect Sarah even at the expense of risking himself. From D.Y.A.D. to Castor/Coady, he's always tried to find a way to keep her safe while constantly being threatened and almost getting killed, until the end where he sacrifice his life for her. He may not have loved Beth and he certainly didn't love Rachel, but maybe he really did love Sarah. And as usual, Sarah is going through it. She got abandoned by Helena after searching high and low for her dear sister. And she wakes up realizing she'd been infected with Rudy's blood like her "dream". The whole concept is utterly nauseating for VARIOUS reasons 😫. And you see her just out of it almost the whole episode, feverish, shaking and sick. The part where she's begging Paul to help her, and he told her that he was trying to. At one point, she slipped her hand into his when Dr. Coady came into the room, desperate for him to save her from the monster Coady, and he tried not to focus or react to it, and moved his hand away. I know that moment probably made Sarah lose all hope when he did that. One of my favorite things about the show is the way they continue to bring Beth back in some way. In season 1, we had to try to make sense of Beth's life and her relationship with Paul in order to make sense of what was happening. Season 2, Beth "returns" via Tony , bringing in Sammy's message about Paul. The series started with her death and I appreciate that she's not a forgotten character. Hallucionation Beth: *angry pill popping* "You two [Paul & Sarah] are a great match. Liars and grifters..." Sarah: "I didn't know you, Beth, when I took your life." Hallucination Beth: "No." Sarah: "I miss you." Hallucionation Beth: "NO! You don't get to miss me! You hear me?! I won't except that!" Sarah: "I'm trying to finish what you started. To help our sisters, but I keep failing. Helena's left me and Cosima's still sick. And I let you jump." Hallucination Beth: "No I jumped. I let myself get consumed by this thing. I killed myself because I couldn't understand it." Sarah: "Neither do I." Hallucination Beth: "You're starting to." The hallucination dream Sarah has of "Beth" is an interesting one. It gives an insight on Sarah's thoughts and feelings about Beth and her situation. Beth was a detective trying to protect her clone sisters and find answers. When she died and Sarah took over her identity, Sarah inadvertently inherited her role as the leader. Living through Beth's life helped her change into whom she is now. Sarah has fought long and hard to protect her family. Not just her daughter and brother, but her sisters too. Beth was a sister she never got to truly meet, but she is just as important to her life as her other sisters. Sarah's trying to stay strong and continue the mission that Beth couldn't. Sarah knows how Beth felt about Paul and how how much pained knowing that didn't truly love her through the letters she found season 1 (that Sarah cried over as she read them told Felix about them when they were suspecting Paul as a monitor) and feels Beth would hate who she was due to her past. She still doesn't feel that she's not worthy to hold the mantle Beth held because of her past. She feels guilt about not saving Beth. And now carrying the weight that Beth once held on her shoulders, she's fought so hard to save her sisters. To save Cosima, Alison, and Helena, so goes above and for her sisters, even against others' hesitation and guidance. And each time Sarah fails, she feels like she's failing Beth... It's a very interesting and hauntingly beautiful way of showing Sarah, our emotionally, supressive protagonist, about how she feels in regards to the woman who started her on this journey. Might be my favorite scene of the season. At least Top 3... I would like to take this quick moment to shoutout Scott. He's such an overlooked character, but that man be pulling his weight. This episode alone, he was holding down the fort on the science end, help Felix get Rachel, and figured out that Rachel may be the key to Duncan' work. We're in the second half of season if season 3. Will Rachel & Felix find themselves in a Paint-Off the next time they meet? Will Sarah & Helena ride off into the Mexican sunset together? Will Donnie one day change his style of undergarments to spice things up? I honestly can't remember the answer to the last one, so I guess we'll find out together πŸ˜„... On a non OB note, I will hopefully be uploading my reaction to Lost ep 1x1 on YouTube sometime this week (I'm also doing reactions to The Boys as well), so I'm excited for that πŸ€—...
