I've always enjoyed how when they first cut to Sayid's flashback and he's asking questions, it starts with subtitles, the camera focuses on his mouth as he speaks, and then the camera pans to the other side of the prisoner's head and suddenly Sayid is speaking english. Just a clever way to show that he's still speaking in another language, but the audience doesn't have to read subtitles anymore, and also let the actor speak english instead.
