Plot / Structure Stuff:
It’s one of the hallmarks of a bad Lostalike when the first several scenes are just “and HERE’S a character 🙂”
It’s just reverse-engineering the way Lost spooled out everyone’s reasons for being on the flight over most of season 1
Luckily, the show turned out to be much better than this introductory section led us to believe
The location of the nearest Denny’s has become a plot point
Did I (Esther) not say literally 20 minutes before the end of episode 2 that I want someone to fire a gun into the dome
The visitor day thing makes this season structure sort of feel like Survivor
I’m kinda curious how they’d bring in new characters for seasons 2 and 3… the dome, no? The dome would stop that?

Alright this Big Jim vs Ollie plot makes me understand why people didn’t like the prequel trilogy being about trade negotiations

The one guy who says you’ll have to kill him before he gives up his guns… it’d be so funny if Big Jim was just like alright, we got a bunch of guns here, everybody grab one and let’s go kill him
It’s so funny that the very episode after Ollie gets killed the show’s like alright Big Jim… we’re gonna upgrade you to a bigger villain 🙂

Character / Performance Stuff:
I think it would be really funny if Big Jim’s gimmick is he can’t help himself from selling cars, even when trying to make a big emotional Lostalike speech
Junior’s the standout so far. Weird evil child for no reason
I’m sorry Julia is awful at her job. What story is she pursuing. Weird teen goes walking? Some journalist
I love Norrie the awful lesbian daughter. She puts so little effort into anything. She knows it’s not worth it, when there’s a dome
Junior made a very inspiring and decent-hearted speech… he’s still keeping a girl locked in his basement 🙂
The scumbag petty criminal doctor priest is a standout. Every scene he’s got a new thing. He’s gonna be flicking a butterfly knife around next episode
Barbie refuses to be deputized because he watches Tim Wise videos. He’s doing the Wakanda Forever gesture before the movie even came out
Ollie has 8 large sons with shotguns who love assembling behind him

It’s so crazy how this show opens with Junior being a delusional psychopath but the rest of the season is about how all his delusions are completely real
Technical / Aesthetic Stuff:
This is remarkably glossy for a CBS show in 2013. Like we remember what V looked like a mere 4 years earlier
Episode 5 has some genuinely pretty cool shots. Jack Bender!
In general, The shots of the dividing lines between inside/outside the dome are frequently pretty cool
They got M83 on the bill… that really was what you’d pull out for a big moment on network TV in 2014
The exterior shot of the blacked out dome is really cool. That’s a finale
