2025-11-05 06:41:54 +0000 UTCDongmin vs Hyunmin DM was one of the most dramatic reality TV show moment for me. The music, settings, dialogue, editing are all peak. It was insanely dramatic that 12 Janggi coincidentally became the last remaining DM game for Dongmin and Hyunmin to play for a revenge story. As I wrote in S3 comment, Hyunmin became 3-dan rank in amatuer Go (roughly top 10%) at age 7 and was offered to become a professional Go player but lost interest when he couldn't find his match. He beat Dongmin in all 12 Janggi deathmatch practices after losing the first one when it first appeared in his deathmatch vs Jongbum. Then Kyunghoon started practicing this game a lot with a similar online game called Animal Janggi. he contacted No.1 ranked player and praticed together. After a few weeks Kyunghoon became insanely good, and he would often claim that "I'm the best 12 janggi player in the world" often during their combined dinners. Hyunmin didn't practice as much, and Dongmin was able to overcome Hyunmin's innate talent for Janggi-Go type games with his practice+brain. Kyunghoon has been saying he can beat both Hyunmin and Dongmin though. The production staff suggested that Dongmin plays a match against Kyunghoon off-records. Both of them agreed, and they ended up playing two games, switching who went first each time. Dongmin won both games. It was initially slotted for behind-the-scene footage, but the production decided to not to release it in fear of this affecting the hype of the finals. Kingslayer vs King of Kings next episode. I cannot wait.

2025-11-04 13:41:09 +0000 UTCIts been around 10 years and we already have so many other brain game survival shows, but I still think Hyunmin is one of the best, if not the best player purely in game strats. I think he mentioned that he's retired from survival shows, but imo he would have been a great candidate for shows like TDP.
