This 904 may look ordinary, but it sure isn't. This 904 represents the ZDF camera car, which ran alongside the fastest cars of its year in the 1966 Nürburgring 1000km race. An idea from German filmmaker, test driver and racing driver Rainer Günzler - the 904/4 was mounted with an onboard camera and satellite antenna capable of projecting the camera feed and audio recorder to the ZDF relay station helicopter. Fully live. In 1966.

While clearly not competing for the win (the car was already outdated by 2 years and weighed 70kg more thanks to the recording equipment) the car still managed to reach the end of the 1000km race. It just wasn't classified, as the pair only completed 18 laps due to lengthy pitstops to adjust the camera, interviews, repairs and so on.
