BOAC 6 Hours 1967 - Ford GT40 #51

For the WSC60's GT40 MK1.

Quite a cool privateer GT40, P/1001 saw action all over the world. The 2nd ever P (Production) chassis to be made, P/1001 debuted in America under Essex Wire branding before being sold to Bernard White after the 1966 Le Mans 24. Bernard raced the car, still wearing Essex Wire stripes, with a young Alan Rees - achieving some success in British club racing. Then the car went to South Africa where it competed in the Springbok Series, with 2 outright wins back to back.

Upon returning to the UK, Bernard sold the car to Sidney Taylor, who ran the car briefly before selling it on again to Charles Lucas. The car was repainted navy blue with an orange stripe and this is how we see it in the 1967 BOAC 6 Hour race at Brands Hatch. Driven by Charles Lucas and Roy Pike, Charles ended up binning it into T1 during the opening phase of the classic endurance race.
