Can-Am Mosport 1966 - Lola T70 MkII #81

For the Lola T70 MkII Spyder mod.

Sidney Taylor may be Ireland's most famous racing driver and team owner. His white/green T70's have raced all over the world, though mostly in Great Britain. By the way, the white/green striped liveries he ran were quite literally inherited by Team Elite via his chief mechanic Ron Bennett.

Taylor had quite the exciting life, being a nightclub owner, entrepreneur and racing driver/team owner. Despite having a thick Irish accent, up to the point of incomprehensibility, he was a sharp minded businessman possessing the "art of the deal". He also opened the first lap dancing club in Birmingham; Once in awhile Sid did try to recruit the odd attractive girl from the facing paddock to join the “performers”. Speaking of seedy clubs, his wife Mary was also a racing driver, racing Minis in small club events.

Taylor managed to convince NZ star racing Dennis Hulme to race with him from 1965 to 1969, at first in their Brabham BT8 and later in pretty much only T70's. Can-Am was a big attraction for Taylor, as the big prize money purses were simply unheard of before. The pair went off to Mosport for the Can-Am race there in September 1966, where they qualified 4th but dropped out after the driveshaft broke.

Sidney Taylor passed away in May 2022 at the age of 89.
