Kenji Tohira | 1941-2024
Yesterday, April 25th, we lost one of the few remaining original Nissan works team drivers; Kenji Tohira. His driving skill excelled in touring car races upon his debut at Kawaguchi in 1965, racing for Nissan's Omori works team. It didn't take long for Tohira to become a Oppama works driver, becoming so in 1969. In his multi decade long career he raced Skylines, Bluebirds, Fairlady's, essentially anything that came out of the Nissan factories. He later raced the Fuji Grand Champion Series and even raced Formula cars.
Tohira raced the Fairlady in 1970, with much success. In 1971, upon the return of the Japanese Grand Prix, he raced a Z432 in the GTS race - and won. One year later, he repeated this feat. This livery represents his 1972 winning car.
One more fact about his career: he started racing cars in 1965, his final race was 31 years later in 1996.
Rest in Peace.
