Sebring 3 Hours Trans-Am 1968 - Alfa Romeo GTA #18
Added 2024-04-22 14:56:18 +0000 UTCBy the mid to late 60s, the U2L (under 2 liters) class in Trans-Am was completely dominated by the tiny Italian shoebox, Alfa Romeo GTA. The Cortinas had by then lost their competitive edge, and with fewer entrants in the class resulting in one car/driver being particularly dominant.
Let's just let Horst Kwech himself do the talking, as he desrcibed the car in a 1970 listing:

Excellent car for GT racing or D-Production next year. Qualified on the pole at all but one Trans-Am. Won several. Led every Trans- Am. Broke most lap records. Never DNF. Only problem all season, faulty fuel cell. Completely rebuilt every race. Many spare engines, rears, wheels, gearboxes, etc. Horsepower 203-hp. Faster than 911, BMW and what have you.
The livery represents the car as it ran the 2nd Trans-Am round of 1968, the Sebring 3 Hours. Here they finished 3rd overall, 1st in their class. The livery has been made in late 2023, but hadn't been uploaded onto RD before - I'm looking to add some more GTA's to the mix before the (possibly final) update of the GTA Historical Skinpack.
