Update on Shortlist Distribution

Hey folks,

Thank you again for your input on shortlist sessions! You can follow the discussion at my previous post.

Once again, I ran my favorite random number generator to pick from the shortlist and sent out times for this month.

Per your input, those selected for April were not in consideration for this month, and those selected this month won't be considered for June, so if you haven't been selected yet your chances are even higher.

Question for the group - how long do we want someone who wins to be out of consideration? Some of you suggested "until everyone else gets a turn" (which would be essentially 5 months). Does that feel right? Or perhaps something in the middle, such as 2-3 cycles?

Looking forward to your input, and to everyone getting their own session!

I'm just gonna heart all the posts and agree! Hearts to all! <3

Well, you KNOW I've already got a spreadsheet going haha. But an interesting point that Users can better estimate their possible slots.

Not only is waiting until everyone gets a turn the fairer option it’s easier to remember for all involved. Users who haven’t gotten picked will know how many months until they’re guaranteed a pick and you’ll know exactly when you need to reset the list.

I agree with Brett; until everyone's had a turn seems fair. Seeing how quickly times go, having a guaranteed spot twice a year seems like a great perk. As someone on Android, where Gmail doesn't immediately notify me of new emails (I think due to restrictions on background activity) this is especially true!

Ooh good catch! This was linked in your email, but not above (fixed now) https://www.random.org/randomness/ gives a great breakdown of the challenges of producing true digital randomness, and a great set of tools as well!

I think "until everyone gets a turn" is a good system. As someone who just minutes ago was chosen, I don't mind waiting until everyone has gone until I get to have a chance to go again. Also, can you reveal your favorite random number generator? Does it involve a lava lamp?
