Warning: ModtheSims is compromised…AGAIN!

Three mods from TwistedMexi were suddenly updated on ModtheSims (MTS). TwistedMexi confirms that he did NOT upload/update any of his mods on there (and hasn’t for years). Also compromised was the No Mosaic mod by moxiemason (now removed).
All of the compromised mods include a new script called mod.pyc, which at this time no one has been able to decompile.
It’s possible there are other creator accounts that are/were compromised as well, so it’s advised to NOT download anything from MTS until further notice. If you already have, delete it and run a virus scan on your computer.

MTS Now Blacklisted from the Mod List
Since this is the second time this year that MTS has had security issues, I will no longer be tracking any mods from MTS.
I feel this is the best decision to make since it’s clear that they can no longer be trusted. The fact that they didn’t bother acknowledging the malware issue earlier this year also contributed to this decision.
What does this mean for the MTS mods already in the list?
At this time, all MTS links in the Mod List will redirect to this post until I can update the links to an alternate platform. Unfortunately, some mods are only available on MTS so I urge creators to make their mods available on another platform because your mods will no longer be tracked if they’re only available on MTS.
I’ll keep you informed as more info becomes available.

• Nov. 5th @ 10:18pm PST - MTS made a post in regards to the compromised mods, they include a full list of known compromised mods. The post does not change my decision on blacklisting MTS from the mod list.

2024-11-06 00:51:06 +0000 UTCAbsolutely sucks that this is happening yet again ☹️ Thank you for all that you do, Scarlet - even though it’s horrible that there are people out there doing this, it’s reassuring that there are people such as yourself all over it for us. 🤗 As an aside, I’m assuming the mods are still fine if we already had them? I personally haven’t downloaded anything from MTS in a long time, but I have had the no mosaic mod for years now. Nothing extra I need to do? I do already have Mexi’s ModGuard!
